The United States Army has been present inStatesboro, Georgia since 1808. The first military unit stationed in the town was the 1st Regiment of Foot Guards, which arrived on December 12, 1808. The regiment served until it was disbanded on November 30, 1861. On February 24, 1865, the 2nd Regiment of Foot Guards arrived in Statesboro and served until its disbandment on July 23, 1865. After the Civil War ended, the Union army left Statesboro and most of what is now Georgia reverted to Confederate control. However, some soldiers from Union units remained and began garrisoning Fort Pillow in Statesboro. In 1870-71 a small battalion of Union soldiers under command of General George Armstrong Custer encamped at Fort Pillow before being withdrawn due to lack of food and supplies. In 1898-99 a U.S.-Spanish War fought between Spain and America resulted in 150 American deaths as a result of Spanish sniper fire along with 21 Japanese killed during an amphibious landing at San Juan Island northwest of Jacksonville Beach Florida which also resulted in 3 Ulysses S Grant’s dead as a result of wounds he received while leading his troops ashore during this engagement called Battle Of Plata Bay or Punta Gorda Landing In 1915-16 Headquarters Company (Air Service) 5th Aero Squadron (), Battery A1421 (), Field Artillery Battalion 424th Field Artillery () were established at Fort Sumter by orderof General John Jellicoe who had become Commandant General United States Army Air Forces after World War I ended Thereafter Headquarters Company (Airmobile) 5th Aero Squadron (), Battery A1521 (), Field Artillery Battalion 454th Field Artillery () were also established at Ft Sumter by orderof Major General James Moulton Scott who became Commandant General United State Army Air Forces upon activation following World War II . On November 11 1941 Colonel William Ritchie USAAF relinquished command over all AAC flying assets based out of Atlanta National Airport when he became CommandantGeneral USAF bugler for day operations only . Now AAC flying assets are headquartered at MacDill AFB FL days only with Col Robert Hosey taking command over all AAC flying assets located within stateside limits effective November 17 1941

Statesboro, Georgia is a town in Fulton County, Georgia, United States. The population was 30,594 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Atlanta metropolitan area. Statesboro was founded in 1795 as a small village on the east side of what is now downtown Atlanta. Its first postmaster was Captain John Oglethorpe. By 1837, Statesboro had become an important military and trade center on the Chattahoochee River due to its position near Fort Ross and its connections with Major George Washington's army during the American Revolutionary War and First Amendment rights protests against British rule in North America. In 1860, whileAtlanta was still under Confederate control, Union General Robert Ewell decided to attack Confederate forces at Battle of Statesboro after learning that General Johnston had ordered his forces to retreat from that location despite superior numbers. From then until 1865 it was part of Union hands until troops loyal to Confederate President Jefferson Davis took over before it finally reverted back to Confederate control following their fall at Appomattox Court House. During Reconstruction states such as Georgia became "emancipated" and beganto develop their own social systems and politics outside of federal supervision; this process continued into the 20th century through efforts by various white supremacist groups such as Ku Klux Klan members who moved into towns like Statesboro during this time period looking for new targets for recruitment or political engagement
