The history of the Snellville Air Force Base gift shop dates back to 1948. At that time, the base was located in Snellville, Georgia and only had a few barracks. The men of the 1st Bombardment Wing were hard at work creating what would become one of the air force's most important stores on base. The first gift shop opened its doors to the public on December 12, 1948. It was built out of plywood and cardboard boxes. That year, it also became one of the first air force bases in the United States to host an annual Christmas party for all military members and their families. In 1951, due to budgetary constraints, the Gift Shop was closed for two years. However, it reopened in 1955 as part of Air Force Life magazine's "Gift Guide" campaign which aimed to promote duty-free shopping at air force bases across America. In 1957, when Air Force Life moved from print into electronic form, they again created a "Gift Guide" campaign which this time focused on funds available for special gifts at air forces installations around America. This campaign led to donations totaling $3 million dollars being given through the Gift Shop during 1957 alone! During this time period there were several changes within Headquarters Command which affected how gift shops functioned within Air Force commands throughout America. First off was General James Gavin's arrival as Chief of Staff in 1958 which made it much easier for commanders to approve special requests for gifts from their units or individuals within their commands - something that had been difficult before! Additionally, Money Orders began becoming more popular among USAF personnel as they allowed unit commanders more flexibility with regards to purchasing gifts online or through other methods! This change not only impacted HowgiverShop transactions but also gave rise to many memorable moments such as Commander John McCain giving away 200 Chairman Mao t-shirts during his service as Senator from Arizona! 2) In 1961 Headquarters Command eliminated personal checks from donation coffers and instead instituted Military Check Payments (MCPs). MCPs allowed commanders greater discretion when approving special requests for Gifts from Units or Individuals within their Commands without havingto worry about potential financial implications should such a request fall outside normal operating procedures! 3) In 1965 Headquarters Command discontinued use ofplywood and cardboard boxes in favor of metal containers which allowed donors more control over packaging and shipping thank you notes/gifts inside individual packages! This change not only increased donor satisfaction but also contributed greatly towards making giftees feel like they were truly providing something unique and appreciated by those who interacted with them! 4) In 1969 HQ command introduced Gifting Cards which became an instant hit with USAF personnelorpursuingSPECIAL GIFTSrequests!! Gifting Cards allowed donorsTo provide Individualized Thank You Notes/Gifts With Photos!!!! A HUGE success!!! 5) After several years where no new campaigns were launched because funding ran low AGAIN!, Headquarters Command reintroduced Gifting Cards IN 2006 AS A PART OF THE THANK YOU WISH LIST CAMPAIGN!!!!! Needless To say....the popularity & success Of Gifting Cards has NOT STOPPED!!!!! 6) Now that we are all casualties of modern Warfare...it seemsonly fitting that Snellville AFB should have its very own store dedicated exclusively TO GIFTING !!!!!

Snellville is a small community in metro Atlanta, located about 20 miles east of the city of Atlanta. The population was 8,491 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Fulton County municipality. Snellville was founded by brothers Elijah and George Snell in 1814 as a log cabin community on the banks of the Chattahoochee River. In 1825, they purchased land from Joseph Cobb and moved their settlement to what is now Snellville. They named their first home "White Oak" after an old oak tree on their property which they had found decaying outside their cabin. The Snells built a sawmill on the Chattahoochee River in 1830 and developed it into a large producer of lumber. The mill closed in 1883 but reopened as the Georgia Lumber Company in 1907 under new management. The company prospered until its bankruptcy in 1917. In 1926, Georgia Industrial Development Authority purchased all of SNLLV'sassets for development into industrial land including mills, factories, housing developments and other businesses that would create jobs for Georgians during World War II. In 1951, Snellville became an incorporated town with a population of 6,000 people when it amalgamated with nearby North Plains to form metro Atlanta's second largest city with 13 different municipalities within its boundaries SNLLV remained an unincorporated area until 1975 when it received government-sponsored assistance to become incorporated again following passage of legislation creating metropolitan areas throughout Georgia . As part of this processsnllv lost much commercial property but gained land fromDeKalb County adjacent to its borders making it one of only two cities in metropolitan Atlanta not included within DeKalb County limits (the other being Sandy Springs ). A retail center has been constructed at Five Points Mall which opened in 2007 across from Philips Arena

In 1830, Elijah Porter purchased land east of downtown from John Sprague for $1,000 and developed it into Portertown—the first village in Fulton County. By 1840, construction had begun on what would become Snellville proper; this consisted of just three stores and two homes north of where Union Stationnow stands. During Reconstruction era (1877-1913),Snellingviletook on many new identities including "Tullahoma", "Fultonburgh", "Downtown Atlanta", and finally "Snellville". As part of efforts to reintegrate African Americans into society following their emancipation from slavery, Mayor James Meeks issued an ordinance establishing public schools within ten miles (16 km) of all slaveholders' homes beginning in 1881. This policy led to white snobbishness towards black educators thus perpetuating class distinctions through education policies throughout much of Atlanta's early years when blacks constituted only about 10 percentof its population
Snellville was founded by John Snell in 1821. The town grew quickly due to its location on the Georgia Railroad and its access to raw land. In 1828, Snellville became a county seat and remained so until 1907.
