They brought back more than 4,000 pounds of coffee beans which they stored aboard the ship. In 1825, the first printing press in the United States was set up in Smyrna by Elijah Woodruff and James Caldwell. This presses printed newspapers such as The Georgia Gazette and The Atlanta Constitution. In 1851, The Courier newspaper was founded in Smyrna by Simeon Garrick Boggs and James Henson Jr.. It is said that Boggs named his paper after he drank one of Garrick's early cups of coffee from his house. In 1865, Griggs Coffee Co., Inc., became the first grocery store chain to open its doors in Smyrna when it opened at least two stores including one on US-441A street corner known as "Griggs' Corner." The store continued expanding until it had six stores throughout central Georgia by 1908. By 1922, Griggs had become well-known throughout Georgia for selling delicious cupof Joe cold brew concentrate made by blending ground Java powder with hot water to create an infusion consistency like cold brewed Starbucks coffee without all of the bitterness or over brewing steps common with most other brands Burgers served at Griggs Cafeteria remain some of the most popular items on the menu today In 1969, General Electric purchased Griggs Coffee Company from founder Simeon Garrick Boggs for $975 million dollars making it one of GE's largest corporate acquisitions ever at that time By 1984, GE had sold Grigg's Cafeteria to Acme Packing Corp who replaced all but two locations with Dunkin' Donuts locations before closing them all within three years
