The Savannah Naval Shipyard is a historic naval shipyard located in Savannah, Georgia. It was founded in 1835 and operated until the mid-19th century. The shipyard was then leased to the Navy by the city of Savannah and operated as a navy yard from 1845 to 1898. From 1898 to 1917, it was used as an air base for the United States Army during World War I. After World War I, it was abandoned and became a storage area for military hardware until 1966 when it reopened as a naval shipyard.
