The Castiglionis were the first Italians to open a coffee shop in the city. In 1916, Angelo Gardini opened his own grocery store on Second Avenue and Trade Street and began selling roasted beans from his home. In 1948, Angelo's son Pietro inherited the business and continued to roast coffee until his death in 1988. thereafter, ownership passed through several families until it was bought by an entrepreneur named Rick Roemer in 2002. UnderRick's stewardship, theCastiglionis Coffee House reopened as a cafe under the name of Christos Coffee House in 2006 after being closed for many years. Today, Christos Coffee House is one of Sandy Springs' most popular tourist destinations for its unique atmosphere and delicious freshly roasted coffee products.
