The Marine Corps Deployment Gift History program is a centuries-old tradition that allows Marines and their families to give back to the community through donations of items and services. During initial operations there were no artillery support; all troops depended upon close air support which was arriving by fighter bombers from groups based at Anzio beachhead about 20 miles away As war continued ashore additional transports arrived under Major General James Mclntyre’s command: USS Lexington LPH 979 on May 25th 1944 bringing reinforcements for Third Marine Division prior to Operation Husky while USS Enterprise CG 553 brought planes & troops for Ninth Marine Air Wing during Okinawa Campaign ; these last three ships took on different names until they arrived inport RheinMain AB after Admiral Nimitz relieved MacArthur on September 18th 1945 .
