The present-day Riverdale Post Office is built on land that once belonged to the Coast Guard. In 1825, a group of Americans from Georgia came to live in what is now Riverdale and started a small grocery store and tannery. They also founded the first school in Riverdale, which served grades K-12 until 1923. The Coast Guard played an important role during World War II and later became part of the National Security Agency (NSA). In 1971, when NSA moved its headquarters from Fort Meade, Maryland to suburban Washington D.C., the Coast Guard took over many of its functions at Washington Navy Yard. Today, the Coast Guard operates two Cutter Offices located at both Naval Station Great Lakes (Leeds) and Naval Station Jacksonville (St Augustine), as well as four Marine Mammal Centers across the United States: one at Miami Beach; one at San Diego; one at Kings Bay; and one located near Seattle’s Central District waterfront district known as Ballard Park.

The Coast Guard has responded to countless emergencies during these past years including: Hurricanes Katrina (2005), Rita (2006), Irene (2007), Gustav (2008) – each bringing their own unique set of challenges that were faced by officials working on scene. From rescuing people stranded on rooftops after hurricanes Catastrophe (2004) or Maria (2017), to evacuating members of Congress during Hurricane Harvey (2018), it is evident that coast guard personnel are well-equipped and dedicated to carrying out their missions with professionalism and distinction.

Riverdale is a small town in Georgia. It is located on the Chattahoochee River, about 30 miles south of Atlanta. The population was 2,027 at the 2010 census. Riverdale is part of the Cobb County School District. The name "Riverdale" comes from a location in England called Richmond-on-the-Clarence and meaning "a channel between two hills." In 1784, General James Oglethorpe established what is now known as Riverdale Plantation on the Chattahoochee River below modern day Grady Memorial University after purchasing it from the Chatham family. In 1814, Major General Andrew Jackson's army burned down part of this plantation to clear land for military encampments near Decatur. riverdale creek soon flowed again through property owned by the Chatham family until1827 when they sold their interest to John Ross (father of future Georgia Governor John Ross). A post office called "Richmond" was established at present day riverside Drive in 1835, and remained in operation until it was discontinued in 1914. In 1857, construction began on what would become Grady Memorial University with land donated by Samuel Griggs including some adjacent to where today's undergraduate main campus stands. The first students enrolled in classes at GMA were male students from Marietta who had gathered there during peace demonstrations against American tyranny following President James Buchanan's inauguration that year led by Drayson Gray and other notable Georgians such as Ebenezer Howard who later served as Ulysses S Grant’s Secretary of War). As Riverdale grew more populated and developed industry heavy industries such as steel production came into being along with new residential development Lots 1 thru 11 Williamson Avenue became known as “River Heights” while Lots 12 thru 16 got an entirely new name – “River Valley” which remain today one of its most popular areas for shopping and dining among its residents despite its history having been used for manufacturing purposes only up until recently! Today much like then many families have continued living/working close to home even if their place has been moved or may be changing hands again soon due to annexation or development within Reachville Township which borders on Riverdale proper especially with all those factories closer yet but still out of sight very few people know about it LOL!

Riverdale is a town in Fulton County, Georgia, United States. The population was 5,814 at the 2010 census. Riverdale is part of the Atlanta metropolitan area. It has a rich history dating back to 1819 when two brothers, George and John Rivers, founded the town on the banks of the Chattahoochee River. The city of Atlanta was founded in 1837 by General Nathan Bedford Forrest and his staff as a military garrison on what is now Peachtree Street. In 1839, Forrest renamed the city after himself, giving it its present name—Riverdale—in honor of his Creek Indian wife Cherokee Nation woman who had borne him three children during their captivity in Alabama. The Forrest family soon changed their fortunes and purchased 2,000 acres (800 hectares) north of Riverdale on which they built a plantation that became known as Riverbend Plantation. Confederate General Robert Ewell occupied this plantation from 1865 until his death in 1870. In 1865, Confederate Major General Jubal Early took control of much of south Georgia and began building Fort Snell on Mound Road near present-day Roswell Park Cemetery. Early wanted to protect this important supply depot from Union troops advancing through central Georgia towards Chattanooga; he chose Riverdale as his headquarters for operations against these Union forces because it lay near potential battlefields in northeast Georgia including Decatur and Athens (which were then under Union control). In 1871–72 Fort Snell was destroyed by fire but early indications are that some stores may have been saved; general Early’s army retreated overland to safety without encountering any Union forces so fortification along Whatcom Plateau may not have been very effective anyway…. By 1893 there were only 2 buildings left standing standing: an old schoolhouse now used as a garage and一the post office house which has since been torn down…. [Fulton County] first settled by Europeans following the American Revolution was named for Colonel James Wilkinson (1752-1828), Surveyor General for South Carolina during Creek War (1794-1800). Wilkinson homesteaded land within what is now Riverdale Township about 8 miles north east of present day downtown Atlanta…. After Wilkinson’s death many settlers followed suit looking for new land….. In 1796 Englishman James Jenkins acquired 1 acre (0 hectare) within today’s bounds of Riverdale Township from Colonel Blackshear for $50….. By 1800 300 acres (120 hectares) had been acquired adjacent to modern day Roswell Park Cemetery from Ebenezer Higginbotham……… Daniel Boone arrived here with Captains Hunter & Hargrave about 1700…. between them they cleared 260 acres [100 hectares] within present day Riverside Drive boundaries….. Between 1799 & 1800 3 men traveled 100 miles [160 kilometres] each across country searching for land grants…… One grant was made but no lot ever developed…………..
