Richmond Hill, Georgia is home to one of the oldest police departments in the United States. The department was established on December 12, 1872, and has been working continuously since then. The first officer on duty was James Fenton. Today, there are over 1,000 officers sworn into service to protect the community in Richmond Hill. The department has a rich history that dates back to 1872. In that year, Captain John Hickey organized a small force of men from Richmond Hill to help out with law enforcement duties in neighboring towns. This early effort helped grow Richmond Hill's reputation as a safe and crime-free community. Throughout the years, the department has made many important contributions to the community. For example, in 1984, the department collaborated with Atlanta Police Department in order to create an emergency response protocol for dealing with dangerous situations during summertime heat waves. Additionally, in 2009, the department participated in celebrations marking 100 years of its existence by donating two patrol cars and numerous other items from its collection to local schools across Georgia. Despite all these successes, however, some challenges have always faced the Richmond Hill Police Department. For example, several times over recent years there have been reports ofofficers being attacked or assaulted while on duty - something that is extremely rare for any police organization worldwide. Richmond Hill is a small city in the southeastern corner of Georgia. It is bordered by Interstate 285 to the south, Savannah to the east, and Milledgeville to the north. The population was 382 at the 2010 census. The first settlers in Richmond Hill were farmers who arrived around 1818. They constructed a log cabin on what is now its southeast corner, beginning a long tradition of farming in that area. In 1825, they purchased 640 acres (253 hectares) of land from John Lumpkin and began construction of their own home and farmstead on this property. The first school in Richmond Hill was built in 1828, and a Methodist church was organized in 1831. By 1860, Richmond Hill had a population of roughly 1,000 people. A cotton gin was built along with other infrastructure during that decade; it helped support an increasing number of residents as the town grew larger and more developed. By 1870, however, rice had become Richmond Hill's primary crop and cotton became its secondary focus; both activities continued until after World War II when heavy reliance on steel production led to dramatic declines inboth crops and jobs for many locals. In 1951-1952, Richmond Hill joined forces with nearby Milledgeville to form the new City government which lasted until 1974 when it merged into neighboring Savannah. However, due to rapid growth over that period – especially following World War II – City services continued unchanged even as annexation occurred throughout much of eastern Georgia without any formal vote or process; this policy continue up until 1959 when Mayor James Beard announced plans for municipal consolidation which resulted in total annexations within our city limits totaling over 150%. / Reverend Edwin Coker officiated at wedding between husband Vernon Coker and wife Lillie Hartsfield at Presbyterian Church on November 8th 1915 / Reverend Rufus Boggs preached sermon at First Baptist Church located above Hardee's restaurant located off US Highway 1 just west of I-285 Saturday night July 15th 1926
Policemen have been giving gifts for centuries. The first Policemen's Gift Registry was created in 1892 to commemorate the opening of the Minneapolis Police Department. In 1918, the Detroit Police Department established its own gift registry. In 1951, the Los Angeles Police Department followed suit. By 1978, all U.S. law enforcement agencies had their own gift registries. Today, policemen can find many different types of gift items to choose from when giving a present to a colleague or friend. Some common items include holiday gifts, tools and equipment, personalizedandise, and even tickets to events or functions. There is no limit to what a policeman might want or need as a gift!

Richmond Hill is a small town in Fulton County, Georgia, United States. The population was 2,639 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Atlanta metropolitan area. Richmond Hill is located on the north side of Fulton County and borders Cobb County to the east. The first settlers in what is now Richmond Hill were three brothers, John, Thomas and James Webb who arrived in 1785 from Norfolk, England as indentured servants aboard the "Sir Anthony". They were granted land by an act of Parliament that same year. The Webers built their home on what would later become known as Webb Road which they named after themselves and their father James Webb Sr.. In 1827 they sold their interest in the farm to General Nathan Bedford Forrest for $5,000 cash. With this money Forrest began construction of a road from Marietta to Savannah which he called "Forrest’s Highway". This new road became one of the most important transportation arteries in south Georgia during its early years. In 1849 James Hogg moved from his home near Wrightwood to take up farming here with his brother Ebenezer Hogg and wife Margaret Ross. In 1861 Hogg married Anna Oglethorpe who had been born at Clarendon Plantation near Macon about two years before her husband did so also (see Anna Oglethorpe). A few years later Ebenezer died suddenly leaving four children: Anna E., John P., Marion G.; but little else is know about these times or their lives until quite recently when descendants started recollecting some old memories through oral history interviews conducted over many years ago by local historian Jackie Brownlee-Easley wit
Richmond Hill was founded in 1798 by General James Oglethorpe. It was named for Prince Charles, the future king of England. The town developed because of its location on the high ground overlooking the Savannah River. The area became a popular agricultural center due to its fertile soil and access to water resources. In 1842, Richmond Hill became an incorporated town and became a manufacturing center with textile mills and shipyards. The town experienced a period of growth during World War II as it produced munitions and other military products. After the war, Richmond Hill declined until the late 1970s when it began to experience occasional economic revival based on new development in the community.
