Pooler is a small town in the Appalachian Mountains of Georgia. It is located on the border of Lawrence County and Chattahoochee County, about 10 miles east of Milledgeville. The population was 524 at the 2010 census. The name Pooler comes from Englishman John Pool, who settled here in 1822. Mr. Pool was a cornhandler and wagon driver. In 1829, he built a log cabin on what is now State Route 309 near present-day Pooler High School. He named it “Pool” after his family home in England. In 1885, Jno Pugh established a sawmill here which soon became one of the most important businesses in the town. The mill produced lumber for buildings, churches, schools and other structures in both Georgia and Alabama. Some of this lumber was taken to Milledgeville for shipment before it was cut into boards to be used by residents there; however, most of it remains today as part of Pooler’s history and attractions! In 1925, Mrs. Fannie White reorganized Trust Company No 1 (later known as First National Bank) in Pooler with assistance from her husband Robert Aiken (1868-1948), one of the early entrepreneurs hereabouts! The bank’s first office was at 401 E Main Street where current day US 1 crosses over into Lawrence County just south of Pooler high school! Mrs. White served as Vice President until her death in 1951; during that time she oversaw an expanding branch network throughout much of central Georgia! She also founded many local organizations including Friendship United Methodist Church (now Baptist), Valley Grange Women’s Auxiliary (now Valley Grama Women’s Club), Boys & Girls Clubs Of America (now GWAC Center For Boys And Girls Clubs Of America) and many others! Her legacy continues to this day with numerous philanthropic endeavors benefiting our community!

Over the years, Fulton County has made important strides such as developing new industries such as Information Technology and Auto Parts manufacturing primarily within its borders. In recent years there have been several redevelopment projects undertaken in response to demographic changes which have pushed the city closer to its rural surroundings. Some examples include the construction of over 20 new homes in just 2 years on one side of town while another project resulting in the creation of 5 acres adjacent to Interstate 285 provides significant job opportunities for local families struggling through tough economic times
