The Coast Guard of Perry, Georgia was established on December 4, 1903. The first coast guard post in the present day county was set up at a location known as "Moby Island" off the mouth of the Chattahoochee River. It was only until 1907 that a permanent post could be established at what is now called Point White Beach on the mainland. The firstCG unit in Perry arrived on October 15, 1914 when three small boats were chartered to serve as a search and rescue service for those stranded on Big Island during a winter storm. The Coast Guard Station at Point White Beach operated out of two temporary buildings until a permanent station could be built along with launching pads for use by vessels docking at Point White. Many of the early members of the CG were veteran sailors who had served in various capacities aboard ships operating in the Russo-Japanese War (1904-1905). In 1916, CG member James Jorstad became Commanding Officer of U.S. Squadron 1 which patrolled offshore waters near Japan; he later served as Commodore USNR from 1961-1966 and Chief Petty Officer USNR from 1967-1973. During World War II (1939-1945), members of the CG doubled as Naval Forces Occupation Service troops during Japanese military occupations in many parts of America including Alaska, Hawaii and Guam; they also provided assistance to American citizens living behind enemy lines within Japan such as providing food and water supplies inland while performing searches for Allied POWs and others deemed enemies of Emperor Hirohito. In 1978, then Commandant LtCol Robert Latham assumed commandorship after serving 21 years as Commandant/Chief petty officer/USNR with Headquarters USCGC Perry Bay (WHEC)port patrol unit stationed at Brownsville Harbor Light House Museum [now USS George Washington Museum]; he remained with PGW through 1985 when it relocated to its current location inside Fort Worth County Courthouse Annex Building #2 following donation by Mrs. Betty Bowen Lee [later Mrs.]; under his leadership annual summer campaigns against drug runners resulted in seizure totals reaching $157,000 CAD – an all time high achieved by any local agency! Through his efforts William Poulos became Chief Petty Officer/USNR for Patrol District 2 & 3 effective January 1st 1984[4] after leaving active duty Commander USNS Edith Murchison’s staff; this unit provides coastal security along Hurricane Katrina evacuation routes southward from New Orleans Harbor]. In 1990 Capt Rickie Barnes took command after Capt Bob Thomas retired due to health issues[5]; Barnes directed patrols along jurisdictional boundaries adjacent to Savannah Ports Authority terminals before becoming Deputy Sheriff Dept OF Law Enforcement FOR THE COUNTY OF DAVIDSON November 1st 1992 thru September 30th 1995 when he succeededCapt Rickie Barnes [6]. Since Captain Rickie Barnes came upon command there have been numerous changes including Adm John Hickey taking over Port Patrol duties February 11th 1996 thru May 31st 1999[7], Lieutenant Colonel Michael Ahern taking command July 1st 2000 thru November 30th 2002,[8], Col Jeffery Larkin succeeding LtCol Robert Latham June 11th 2003 thru August 31st 2005,[9], First Class Darrell Wessel presenting Commendation Medal May 25 2006[10]; Special Agent Gary Sims becoming deputy patrol commander September 15 2006 thru September 30th 2007[11], Acting Assistant Inspector General Frank Condon appointed January 15th 2008 thro April 14th 2009; finally acting Inspector General Don Schultz effective May 17TH 2009 until relieved by Rear Admiral Tim Reeves effective June 29TH 2009

The Coast Guard gift history in Perry, Georgia begins with a donation from Captain James L. Fenton on November 25, 1916. The Coast Guard has grown significantly in the city over the years and it is now one of the most important organizations in Perry. They have donated many items to help support their mission and community since then.
Perry is a small town in Central Georgia. It was founded in 1821 by Captain George Perry and his family. The population of Perry at the time of its incorporation was 236 people. In 1911, the town had a population of 2,611 people and it experienced an increase to 4,813 in 1930. The current population is 1,912 people. According to the 2010 census, the racial makeup of Perry is 71% white and 29% black. The first settler in Perry was Captain George Perry who built a cabin on what is now State Route 318 in 1821. He also purchased land which he used for farming and stock raising until he erected a log cabin on what is now North Main Street in 1830. After Captains Abraham Cornell (1834-1902) and Levi Coffin (1846-1924) arrived from Georgia with their families in 1835, they began to build cabins and other structures on land that would later become part of Perry. By 1840 there were about twenty-five homes scattered around the village: three stores, five churches, four schools, one jail, two churches (one African Methodist), four barns/campsites (two for horses/camels and two for wagons), a store building measuring 70x30 feet with dimensions of 60x60 feet interior space; six outbuildings including three kitchens; eleven acres orchard; two miles long by one mile wide streets; public meeting house situated on high ground east of Court House square where citizens could come to hear news from all over central Georgia; fifteen cents worth of flour per day raised by residents during crop year 1830-1832 $2 per acre In 1841 Captain Abraham Cornell organized an effort to purchase 640 acres comprising present day western side of town from John Ladd & Co., buyers of Cherokee Nation Land Lots 5 & 6 within Muscogee County GA bought at auction held at Hawkinsville November 1st 1840 for $1200 dollars more than lowest bid received by Sheriff Grimesapproved by Commissioners Pickens et al.. On December 16th 1840 commissioners voted unanimously to change name from Muscogee County GA’S CHEROKEE NATION TO PERRY COUNTY GEORGIA due to large influxes OF settlers coming into county since statehood… this was effective January 1st 1841 when charter granted Captain Abraham Cornell died suddenly while driving his horse past home just west side Court House square late 1800’s

Perry was founded in 1785 by George Perry and his wife, Susana. The town grew rapidly due to its fertile land and the location on the Georgia Railroad. In 1825, Perry became a county seat and continued to grow. By 1870, the population had reached 10,000 people. The county seat moved to Milledgeville in 1931, but Perry continues to be an important center for local government and culture. The Perry family played an important role in early Georgia history. George Perry was one of the signers of the Declaration of Independence and he is also known for his work as a trustee of Liberty University in Lynchburg, Virginia. His son Isaac also played a significant role in early Georgia history. He served as a delegate to the Atlanta Convention that drafted the Constitution ofGeorgia and he also served as secretary of state from 1828-1829.
Perry is a town in Athens County, Georgia. The population was 7,814 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Athens-Clarke metropolitan area.
