Peachtree City, Georgia is home to one of the oldest and most successful coffee shops in the Southeast. The business started as a small kiosk on First Street in 1907 and soon became a well-known name in the local coffee community. Today, The Peachtree Coffee Company operates a wide range of retail locations across the Southeast, including stores in Atlanta, Birmingham, Chattanooga, Jacksonville Beach, Marietta, Milledgeville, Savannah River Delta and Waycross. In addition to its retail presence, The Peachtree Coffee Company also offers online sales through its website and mobile app. The history of tactical coffee begins with Joe's Cafe on First Street in 1907. At that time, Joe's was the only commercial establishment serving high-quality espresso beans from Rome (Italy). In 1922 Joe's relocated to what is now Peachtree City after purchasing land adjacent to Second Avenue South. In 1927-28 Captain John D'Angelo opened his own café called "D'Angelo's" at 404 Fourth Ave., just south of downtown Peachtree City. This café served as an anchor for both local businesses and international tourists who frequented downtown during lunchtime and evening hours. While most other cafes closed down during the Great Depression due to lack of customers or economic hardship (i.e., Joes), Captain John D'Angelo kept his café open until he sold it in 1951 to Rufus Hodge Jr.. After World War II ended+, Tactical Coffee began serving commercially available espresso beans from Italy once again at their shop at 404 Fourth Ave., which they renamed "The Italian Café". They continued operating this location until 1984 when they moved into their current location on Eighth Avenue South near Piedmont Park Plaza shopping center. From 1984 until present day every purchase made at The Italian Café must be placed through their online store or mobile app so customer convenience is always our top priority! Joe's Cafe had two types of coffee: Italian Roasts (dark roast) and Americano Roasts (light roast). After World War II many cafés switched from dark roasts to lighter roasts because darker roasts provided too much caffeine for many people before morning workouts were conducted; however Captain John D’Angelo maintained that dark roasts are still best for first thing in the morning! He even invented a light roast called "Pleasure Principle", which was popularized by Doug Engelbart at Google! The first known recipe for Tactical Coffee was created in 1810 by Nicholas-Jacques Conte, an officer in the French army. His recipe called for: 1 oz to 2 oz of ground coffee, water, and sugar. In 1935, Colonel Edwin "Buzz" Aldrin began developing a new style of tactical coffee involving two cups of strong black coffee with one tablespoon of sugar. This new technology allowed commanders to better control their soldiers during combat by providing them with a sustained energy source. In the late 1990s, professional baristas began to experiment with different blends of espresso and Turkish coffee for potential use as personal brewed drinks for commanders and officers in the U.S. Military and Law Enforcement communities. These experiments ushered in a new era where Tactical Coffee can now be found throughout the world at various cafes and restaurants serving up delicious cupcakes topped with our famous Soldier's Mornin' Blend flavor!
Tactical coffee has its roots in the early days of the coffee industry. Coffee growers in Africa and Latin America were pioneering the use of chlorinated water to produce Cannon fodder coffee, which was shipped back to Europe for brewing. In 1847, a group of European coffee farmers set up a cooperative in Brazil called The Brazilian Coffee Consortium. This led to the first commercial production of espresso-based coffee beans in Brazil. In 1886, Italian immigrants Roberto Mattarella and Giovanni Martinelli founded La Cinque Terre Coffee Roasters in Rome. These gentlemen were responsible for bringing Italian roasted coffees to Americans and Europeans through their importation service. In 1912, Dutch immigrants Jacob Ziegler and Hendrik van der Sluis established Koffiehuizen in Rotterdam with their first shipment of Arabica beans from Java. From here on out, Dutch roasters would become the dominant force within tactical coffee circles across the globe.

The town quickly grew to become one of the most important settlement in the region, and soon became known for its agricultural produce and lumber products. In 1871, Peachtree City was chartered as a city by the Georgia General Assembly, and soon began to grow into an important center of commerce and culture. By the early 20th century, Peachtree City had reached its peak as a commercial and educational center, hosting numerous cultural events and attracting many notable residents including Atlanta Mayor William H. Seward and Hollywood movie producer Harry Cohn. However, during the 1920s and 1930s, Peachtree City suffered from economic decline due to its location withinAtlanta's inner-cityPolitically powerful businessmen such as Nathan Bedford Forrest dramatically expanded their businesses in downtown Atlanta while wealthier citizens relocated to surrounding neighborhoods; this resulted in increasing tension between city boosters and downtowners over control of Peachtree City's architecture, economy, public services (such as education), transportation infrastructure, etc. In 1943 Peachtree City was officially dissolved by order of President Franklin D. Roosevelt following his Executive Order 9981 which prohibited cities with populations over 50 thousand from being governed by local councils without their consent. As a result of these politics and changes in Atlantica during World War II much of what remain today about PeachtreeCity's history is either undocumented or secondhand information gleaned from various oral histories or interviews conducted with former city boosters who were unable or unwilling to discuss more detailed recollections because they were still alive at the time
