Construction began on what would become Peachtree City on July 4, 1822 - less than two years after Mitchell's arrival from England. The original town site included just over 2 square miles (4 km2). But within months of its founding, much progress had been made: Streets were laid out; homes were erected; crops were raised; water supplies were established; schools were built; churches were organized...
