The Navy has a long and honorable history in Norcross, Georgia. The USS Constitution was the first ship to come ashore at the new Fort Snelling Naval Base in 1802. The base was later renamed Jacksonville in 1909, after President George Washington's visit. In 1942, General Eisenhower ordered all U.S. naval ships on duty at Jacksonville (except the battleship Missouri) to be turned over to the Japanese military for conversion into warships. The Constitution was not among those vessels delivered to Japan; it served as flagship of Admiral Chester Nimitz's Task Force 8 which unsuccessfully attacked Pearl Harbor on December 7th, 1941. In 1945, the Constitution became flagship of Rear Admiral John Wolkoff's task force which attempted to retake Guam from the Japanese - but failed due to heavy American losses and no shortage of supplies provided by allied forces. In 1948, Commodore David Farragut took command of the fleet and reactivated USS Constitution as flagship again; this time they succeeded in recapturing Guam from the Japanese and liberating it from their rule. USS Constitution is one of only three ships remaining afloat today that were lost during World War II - her sister Ships Enterprise (CVN-65) and Lexington (CVN-85). She is currently moored at Norfolk Naval Shipyard where she will undergo restoration work beginning in 2019-2020. As part of her refurbishment project, Constitution will also receive a new superstructure and other mods including an updated electronic system providing enhanced visibility against nightime operations as well as improved firefighting capabilities across a wide range of weather conditions; she should become operational once again within 25 years!

Norcross, Georgia is a city in Fulton County, Georgia, United States. The population was 54,812 as of the 2010 census. It is the county seat of Fulton County and home to the University of Georgia and the Norcross Mall. The Norcross area was first settled by families from New England in 1771. The area served as a base of operations for traders travelling through what is now Georgia on their way to trade with the Creek Indians. The first permanent settler in what would become Norcross was John Dowling who arrived in 1789. Dowling named his land "Norcross" after one of his friends, Rev. Jonathan Norborn (1728-1802). In 1814, entrepreneurs James Moultrie and Nathan Hale purchased 6 lots in what would become Norross from John Dowling for $2,000 each. Moultrie developed this area into an important commercial center due to its location at the intersection of two major roadways: Old Atlanta Road and Interstate 85/Old National Highway 22. Moultrie's business ventures included founding a bank and developing an early cotton gin located on present day Pryor Place Boulevard just north of downtown Norcross. In 1827 he also built a small schoolhouse on present day Pruitt Place Boulevard which he used as his own home until it burned down in 1892 (). In 1842 James Moultrie married Martha Washington Henshaw (1809-1886), daughter of General Hancock Henshaw (1765-1846) and Hannah Wellesley Stevenson (1777-1800). They moved to Decatur County where they had two children: James Fenton Moultrie (1843-1927) and Martha Washington Henshaw Moultrie (1845-1921). In 1850 Jesse Grimes started trading post near present day Pryor Place Boulevard which became known as "Grimes's Corner". By 1861 over 40 stores were operating along Pryor Place Boulevard with some doubling up as multiple locations (). By 1870 there were 125 businesses located along Pryor Place Boulevard with 80% being engaged in commerce or transportation (). Another major development came about when railroad mogul David Dixon bought 100 acres south of town in 1872 for $10,000 () making him one of the largest landowners within reachofAtlanta Rapid Transit Company (). After building track between here and Marietta (), Dixon donated part of his estate to Atlanta RAILROAD COMPANY for use as a depot () later known as MARIETTA STATION . Dixon also played an important role in helping found Fulton Business College on present day Turner Avenue just east of downtown Norcross . This institution helped establish Fulton County’s economy by awarding high school diploma courses leading to professional degrees such as lawyers, doctors, dentists etc., beginning with men like Jno Bogan(? - 1915) who became owner/director/CEO & Manager – new pattern that has continued thru out US history ever since! Today many people know more about our History than most people alive today!

The arrival of railroads and other transportation systems helped to spur development in Norcross and other nearby towns during this time period. Norcross experienced some major growth during World War II as many servicemen moved into the area to work on munitions plants or in defense industries. After the war, steady job growth followed as businesses developed around services such as health care and education within norcross’ borders. Today, Norcross remains a vibrant community with a strong sense of community spirit and pride.
