Norcross was also responsible for developing what is now known as downtown Norcross into what it is today. He started out by building a small warehouse on African American land north of Central Avenue. Soon enough, other businessmen followed suit and built their own stores near the original warehouse. It wasn’t until after Captain Norcross died that downtown Norcross really took off (and still does). Today, downtown Norcross is one of the most vibrant parts of town – full of businesses and restaurants, as well as cultural attractions like The Barnes Art Museum and The Peachtree Center for Performing Arts. Norcross is a city in Fulton County, Georgia, United States. The population was 25,811 at the 2010 census. It is the county seat of Fulton County and the home of Norcross University. Fulton County was created from part of Oconee County in 1837 and became part of Georgia in 1868. In 1892, it was renamed for General George C. Marshall after he served as secretary of state under President US Grant. The name "Norcross" was given to the town by Colonel John Norcross (1829-1910), an early settler and developer in what became Norcross Township. The first post office in Norcross was established on December 15, 1892. In 1905, a water tower and pumping station were built near downtown Norcross to provide water to residents living on surrounding farms and plantations. A sewage plant also opened in 1907 to alleviate problems caused by inadequate drainage at nearby farms into the Chattahoochee River which contributed to flooding during major rainstorms throughout central Georgia that year. In 1916, a new high school building was constructed adjacent to present day High School Stadium; this facility would become known as North Gwinnett High School until its conversion into a retail center following the construction of I-285 east of town in 1984). In 1927, an elementary school building (renamed East Gwinnett Elementary) was erected next door to High School Stadium; this facility would serve as the primary educational institution for children within walking distance of town until buses replaced trains serving townspeople around 1965). The city's economy began diversifying rapidly following passage of legislation creating local government functions specific to transportation planning/funding/operation within unincorporated areas outside county boundaries in 1966 through what came to be know as "the norcross plan." This act provided infrastructure grants specifically earmarked for transportation projects across jurisdictional lines blooming statewide thereafter resulting then variously termed "state highways", county roads/roads westward from terminals situated within incorporated areas - most notably Interstate 285 forming today's core borough boundaries - or simply designated streetscape improvements with no further jurisdiction implications outside limits! Norcross, Georgia is a small town located in Cobb County, Georgia. The population was 7,521 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Atlanta metropolitan area. The town was founded by Germans in 1835 and named after Norcross Township in DeKalb County, Illinois. In 1892, the name change to Norcross after William H. Norcross who became a U.S. Senator from Georgia and one of the founders of Atlantida Petroleum Company which later merged into Shell Oil Co., Ltd. The community had two schools until 1954 when it became an all-girls school, Norcross Girls High School (now known as Gwinnett Technical High School). In 1990, local developers began construction on a mixed-use development called "The Mills". The project included 515 housing units, 100 businesses and 30 acres of land for hunting and fishing operations; however, it languished until Mayor John Parker announced that he would seek to buy the property from developer Robert Iger for $4 million dollars. On October 1st 2000 residents voted 3-2 to add industrial uses such as manufacturing plants and warehouses onto their rural community with plans for retail shops as well as more than 50 homes for low income families; however this never came to fruition because Iger sold his interest in the property toDevelopers started working on what would become known as "The Mills" project which would include 515 housing units including 100 businesses and 30 acres of land for hunting and fishing operations but still failed to gain approval from city officials
