The Marine Corps has a long history of deploying gifts to units and individuals throughout the world. One of the most well-known deployments is the Marines’ deployment of Christmas presents to troops in Moultrie, Georgia in 1944. The gift tradition continued with Marines stationed in Japan during World War II and Korea. Today, marines continue to send gift packages to servicemen and women all around the world. This year, they are sending a special message with their Operation Santa Cruz holiday campaign. This year’s theme is “Helping Others Make History.” They are targetting military families who have served our country and make sure that each recipient receives an unique gift package wrapped with care. This year, marines are also commemorating 50 years of service by giving away four types of medals: Amphibious Service Medal (ASM), Defense Distinguished Service Medal (DSM), Overseas Service Medal (OSM) and National Defense Service Medal (NDSM). These medals recognize specific accomplishments or service members who have given their all for our country. As part of this campaign, marines will be distributing medals at various locations across America on December 5th and 6th.

The first Marine deployment to the Georgia coast in 1898 was a gift from the United States to Spain. In 1917, Marines were sent as part of World War I and again in 1921 during World War II. The last Marine deployment took place in 1991 when Marines served during the Gulf War.
Moultrie is a small town in south-central Georgia, United States. The population was 1,828 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Athens-Clarke County Micropolitan Statistical Area. Moultrie was founded in 1868 by Major General James H. Moultrie as a post station on the Chattahoochee River. The first store and school were built in 1870, and the first lighted streetlight was lit in 1875. Moultrie's history goes back to 1865 when General James H. Moultrie set up his headquarters at this site for the Confederate Army during the American Civil War. After Union troops overran his post, he reoccupied it and renamed it Fort Moultrie after himself and his family members who had fought with him during that conflict. In 1901, A&P supermarket opened its doors here; it would be one of several stores which anchor present-day Main Streetrowndaardsheetsmalltown center across from Turney Park Cemetery until 2003 when Kroger acquired them all suburbanizing the town center - effectively eliminating any remaining retail presence apart from convenience stores/grocerydelivery services (Kroger still operates one small grocery store within walking distance of most residents). The busy downtown business district has long been anchored by two banks: First National Bank of Athens and Citizens Bank of Athens (now JPMorgan Chase). Other significant businesses include Apparel Outlet, Rhodes Jewelry & Watch Store, Gadsden Ford dealership (closed since 2006), US Cellular Center (since 2005), Jackson Hewitt shoplifting case restaurant chainsaw chain storeanchored near I-20 exit 256B eastbound lanes) as well as an insurance company formerly known as Pemberton Insurance Company - now part of Allstate - just off Main Street north of Gaithersburg Road intersection adjacent to Interstate 20 expressway Exit 257A westbound lanes Demolition began in early 2009 on what remains of woolen textile mill complex including three large brick buildings housing over 100 looms each used to produce twill cotton socks being demolished became public knowledge following a "Walking Papers" series published by local journalist Jeff Thomas entitled "Dismantling Moultrie Woolen Mill Complex stirs local anger" In October 2009 demolition ceased abruptly due to weather conditions with only six looms left operational - meaning no jobs were created or saved despite promises made by management In January 2013 construction began on a new Walmart Supercenter located adjacent to Coxe Middle School off I-20 eastbound lanes providing more than 2200 sq ft/ft inside along with additional parking for thousands more shoppers

For example , during World War II , marines served in over 60 countries across six continents helping secure victory for Allied troops over Nazi Germany Additionally , during Operation Neptune Spear there were 547 total casualties with 433 fatalities among active duty marine personnel while support personnel number exceeded 710 consisting of sailors, airmen and civilians . Moultrie was founded in 1806 by Colonel John Moultrie and his wife, Temperance. The town served as a trading post for the Cherokee Indians and soon became known for its produce, especially cotton. In 1818, Moultrie was named after General Andrew Jackson, who had fought in the American Revolution. The town continued to grow until it reached its peak in the early 1800s. By 1830, however, Moultrie was losing population due to cotton plantations and other economic problems. In 1835, General Nathan Bedford Forrest moved his army into Moultrie during the Battle of Chickamauga and destroyed most of the town.
