The first coffee shop in Moultrie was called The Coffee House. It was opened by Mr. and Mrs. Capps in 1907. In 1912, the first cocoa beans were roasted in Moultrie.
Moultrie, Georgia is a small town in Cobb County, Georgia. The population was 2,715 at the 2010 census. Moultrie is located on the eastern edge of Cobb County and is bordered by the city of Duluth to the south and east, and Stockbridge to the north. Moultrie was founded in 1814 as a small community between Decatur and Atlanta. It became an important ironworks center during the early 19th century because of its natural resources such as coal, lead, zinc, and mercury. The town's prosperity declined after World War II but has gradually regained some of its former prominence since 2000 when it became home to three large energy companies: ConocoPhillips (2005), Southern Coaster (2008) and Phillips 66 (2010). The name Moultrie comes from French for "muddy ground." Moultrie was first settled by Georgians who were forced out of their homes in what is now Alabama during Reconstruction following the Civil War. Some residents relocated to Moultrie because they could not find new land to live on in their new state. Others arrived during this time for political reasons; many were freedmen who had then toiled on cotton plantations all their lives before achieving independence. During most of its history, Moultrie was known as a farming community with little industry other than agriculture until relatively recent times when it has become more prominent due to its location within easy reach of major metropolitan areas including Atlanta and Duluth
