In 1998, the store experienced a fire that destroyed most of the building including the coffee beans and tea leaves. However, several years later, The Coffee Bean & Tea Leaf reopened with new equipment and reopened as a brand new business with fresh roasted coffee along with delicious pastries. Monroe is a small city in the U.S. state of Georgia, located on the Chattahoochee River. The population was 8,811 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Atlanta metropolitan area and is one of the most populous cities in Georgia. Monroe has been a town since 1822 and became an incorporated city in 1901. The name "Monroe" comes from French La République de Monterrey, which means "The Republic of Mexico". The first Baptist church in Monroe was built on what is now Elmwood Avenue in 1822 by Reverend James Crayton, who had moved from Rome, Georgia to become pastor of First Baptist Church there that year. In 1825-26, Rev Mr Crayton's son-in-law Joshua Hallett founded another Baptistchurch known as Liberty Chapel where he preached for many years until his death in 1893. A schoolhouse also soon stood on this site; but it burned down about 1840 before it ever got its own building or students. In 1901 Monroe became an incorporated city under the jurisdiction of Fulton County with a population of 7,500 people – making it one of only six cities in Fulton County at that time (the others being Roswell (1901), Decatur (1902), Dunwoody (1904), Johns Creek (1905), and very recently South Gwinnett (2006)). The annexation by Cobb County followed briefly in 1907 but then reverted back to Fulton County control due to political differences between Cobb and Monroe over water rights issues around Lake Lanier near Old Town Square in Cobb County – all property currently within DeKalb County boundaries today! As an incorporated city, Monroe exercised certain powers not enjoyed by towns such as having its own police department and fire department; however these services are now provided by DeKalb county authorities through contracts with other jurisdictions. In addition to its civic responsibilities, Monroe is home to several businesses including two hospitals and four retail stores including one corner store still open today! Today's economy relies heavily on transportation: MARTA provides bus service into downtown Atlanta every day except Monday; Amtrak also services town into downtown Atlanta daily; while local trucking companies provide many jobs within walking distance of many businesses throughout town center
