The Monroe Army National Guard is one of the nation's oldest and most veteran-owned military forces. The unit has been deployed to every corner of the United States, including wars in Iraq and Afghanistan. Since its establishment in 1802, the Monroe AAGN has fought for our country at home and abroad. The unit was first mobilized for service in the American Revolution, fighting alongside George Washington's army. In 1814, the Militia Act of 1814 established a national guard system in America that would serve as a reserve force for the government should war break out with France. From its inception, the Monroe AAGN has had a strong tradition of volunteerism and service to our country. Units have served throughout World Wars I and II, and during peacetime they provide support to local law enforcement agencies or act as bodyguards for state officials. In 1992, when President Bill Clinton designated the Monroe AAGN as part of Operation Noble Eagle - his effort to increase troop levels across America - it was an indication of just how committed this organization is to serving our country both militarily and politically. Since then, there have been many deployments – most recently Operation Neptune's Spear in 2007 – which have seen members from all over Georgia come together to participate in training exercises overseas. With such a long history of deployment, it's no wonder that army gifts from past years often reflect that same commitment to service and patriotism! Here are some examples: 1) In 1996, after 9/11 happened, members from the Monroe AAGN gathered together to create an album called "From Our Unit To Yours" which chronicled their experiences during that fateful year. The album includes photos from member drills held around town as well as special ceremonies honoring those who died on September 11th (such as motorcycle rides through downtown streets).2) In 2001 members donated items such as uniforms and gear to help flood victims in New Orleans following Hurricane Katrina.3) In 2006 after 4 brave soldiers sacrificed their lives while serving in Afghanistan’s Helmand Province; Commander Robert Carney presented medals & patches along with $5K worth of gift cards loaning money towards food banks near where they were killed (this was also featured on Military Wives).4) Recently we've seen donations like this continue with giveaways like Army Greeting Cards (pictured), T-Shirts & Hats (pictured left), mugshots/pictures (+ email address if wanted), buttons & medals (pictured right). There are 1 912 households out of which 36% had children underthe age OF 16 living with them,[2] 50% were married couples living together , 10% had a female householder with no husband present,, and 30% were non-families . 28% of all households were made up of individuals and 12% had someone living alone who was 65 years old or older
