He also served as an delegate to the First Continental Congress in Philadelphia in 1774 and again in 1775. The community developed around two railroad yards that were located near modern-day Milton Road and Highway 67 north of downtown Atlanta. The crossing over Thunderbolt Creek became a popular spot for picnics and swimming; later it became a location for dances and other events during prohibition times. After repeal of prohibition in 1933, activity increased around the train depot until it closed in 1980 due to financial difficulties brought about by changes in technology and economic recession. In recent years there has been some redevelopment taking place around the Depot area with new businesses opening up such as a dental office complex called Crest Dental Center (www dot com) which opened up next door to what used to be the old post office building which has now been converted into apartments/condominiums called "The Crescent". There are also plans being made to convert part of the property into retail space including newly built housing units onsite currently under construction adjacent to Interstate 285 which will provide access from both sides of I-285 providing development potential for both sides of I-285 if approved by city government

Milton, Georgia is a small town in Pike County, Alabama. It was founded in 1836 by Reuben Milton and his wife Phebe. The population was 561 at the 2010 census. Milton is the only community in Pike County. Milton is located on the south bank of the Tennessee River, about 12 miles (19 km) east of Decatur and 8 miles (13 km) west of Athens. The town was named after Moses Milton, an early settler who helped found Pike County. The first school in Milton was built in 1838 and operated for two years. A second school was built in 1840 and continued to be used until 1945. In 1848, a sawmill opened in Milton and continue operation until 1938. The mill also produced flour for local markets until 1957 when it closed down due to lack of demand. The first post office in Milton was established on December 3, 1835, by John Fenton with the name of "Newbern". The present post office has been in operation since 1917. In 1865, one mile (1 1/2 kms) west of town along United States Route 441 there began construction on what would become known asDecatur Dam which would provide water resources for Athens and other areas within Cherokee County during drought years; this project ultimately failed because financial difficulties arose from over-speculation by developers associated with the dam project settlers had difficulty understanding how much water could actually be delivered to their area from Decatur Dam while still meeting reservoir specifications
