Caldwell Coffee Roasters, which continued to produce high-quality coffee until 2009. Today, there are still many businesses that sell quality coffee in Milledgeville, such as Mr. Coffee Coffee House and Monroe Coffee Roasters. Milledgeville's rich coffee history can be seen in its buildings and infrastructure too. One of the most notable buildings located in town is the old courthouse which was built between 1894 and 1896. The courthouse was designed by local architect John Witherspoon and is one of only a few remaining federal courthouse buildings from the turn of century in Georgia. It has been used as a variety of businesses including law offices, schools, and community centers over the years. One of Milledgeville's most famous residents for their love of coffee is Dr.-Dr.-John Atherton who began roasted his first beans here in 1915!
