Milledgeville is a small town in the Georgia state of Georgia, located about 20 miles east of Athens. The town was founded in 1802 by Captain James Cook, who became the first European to visit what is now Georgiastate. Milledgeville's rich coffee history begins with Colonel John Putnam, who co-founded the Putnam Coffee Company in 1824. From there, coffee grew rapidly and began to be exported throughout the Southeast. In 1837, Milledgeville became one of two towns in Americus County (the other being Decatur) that started receiving mail from London relaying beans and roasted goods from their local roasteries. As coffee exports increased and demand for it shifted away from Europe towards Asia and South America, Milledgeville became an important node on the North American coffee market. With its growing industry, Milledgeville also saw an increase in population growth during the 19th century. In 1881, when it reached its current population size of approximately 507 individuals*, Miledgeville became one of only a handful of U.S. towns to have a post office established outside metropolitan Atlanta**(*The post office moved to Decatur in 1907). By 1889*, Milledgeville had become home to more than 100 businesses*(and over 350 residents*)*. Milledgeville is a city in McIntosh County, Georgia, United States. The population was 14,773 at the 2010 census. Milledgeville is the county seat of McIntosh County. It is part of the Atlanta metropolitan area. Milledgeville was founded by General James A. Milligan and his family in 1814 as a small settlement on the Chattahoochee River near what is now Decatur. The first post office was established in 1816, and the town name changed to Milledgeville in 1827 when it became adjacent to what is now Atlanta. In 1835, Milledgeville became the capital of McIntosh County after its creation from parts of Cobb and Gwinnett counties. In 1865, following Confederate victory at Chickamauga Ridge, President Andrew Johnson designated it as the temporary capital of Georgia after Savannah had been destroyed by Union forces during their unsuccessful campaign for independence. In 1870, John KirbySmith erected a mill on the Chattahoochee River about two miles downstream from where Milledgeville now stands and began producing cotton goods for local markets. By 1880 he had built an additional mill complex that produced flour and feed products as well as cotton goods; this company later became known as Kirby Smith & Company. The mill closed in 1963 but left behind a significant legacy: over one million pounds (454 metric tons) of raw cotton were processed there each year until 1987 when production switched to automated mills due to pollution concerns. The city's economy has been based largely on agriculture since its earliest days; today nearly all Ofelia Farms produce corn and soybeans grown on more than 5 thousand acres (2 thousand hectares). The agricultural industry has also supported numerous small businesses; many residents still work directly with their families or through dozens of local farms-to-go restaurants that serve fresh food right up front at your doorstep! Eventually European settlers took up coffee drinking habits among themselves too – including Dutch colonists who introduced java into New England in 1606 AD. Eventually a global trade network emerged that connected all parts of the world with coffee shipments arriving at ports around the world via ships manned by sailors travelling along routes established by Arab traders. This process helped specialize regional markets for certain types of beans while also spreading new styles of architecture across regions where wine was dominant

Milledgeville is a city in Fulton County, Georgia, United States. The population was 21,869 at the 2010 census. Milledgeville is part of the Atlanta metropolitan area. Milledgeville is named for General James Wilkinson Mill (1786-1851), an American Revolutionary War general and one of the first white settlers in what would become Fulton County. The first post office at Milledgeville was established on November 12, 1811, by Major John Wilkinson. The name "Milledgeville" was first applied to this site by Colonel James Wilkinson in 1815 while he supervised construction of a road from Cumming to Decatur. In 1825, Captain Thomas Milling contributed $1,000 to build a schoolhouse and store on his land near present day Main Street and Ponce de Leon Avenue. This building served as the town's first public square until it burned down in 1842. In 1847, two brothers - George Washington and Cyrus Harding - donated 1000 acres (4 km2) of land east of town to create Glynn College which becameGeorgia State University in 1951. In 1865-1868 Jno Aiken built a sawmill on Little River Creek (later renamed Peachtree Creek) about three miles east of town starting from what is now Peachtree Road northeastward; this mill continued operation until1968 when it went out of business due to declines in demand for lumber during the Great Depression era). During World War II many citizens helped contribute materials & labor for local industries such as munitions production or shipbuilding etc.; these contributions are known as "War Time Industries". In 1957 Gwenda Blair became the mayor after being elected over several other candidates with her pledge to reduce traffic congestion and improve city services; she later announced that she would not seek re-election after becoming mayor again in 2011. After her second term ended she left office leading up to her impeachment trial which began proceedings on January 3rd 2014 but ultimately finished without any verdicts being reached following more than two years of hearings & debate
