The town of Mcdonough, Georgia is located in Chattahoochee County. The population was 5,745 at the 2010 census. The community began as a small settlement on the east side of the Chattahoochee River in 1821. In 1827, General Andrew Jackson and his military expedition crossed the river and burned the Uniontown Plantation, which destroyed much of what was left of Mcdonough. The town became a thriving commercial center with brickyards and wheatfields providing most of its income until World War II when aluminum production took over.
