Mcdonough, Georgia (population: over 100,000) is a large city located in the southeastern United States. It is the seat of McIntyre County and was founded in 1824. The city has been named for General James McDonough, who served as Governor of Georgia from 1828 to 1830 and as Commander-in-Chief of the Confederate army during the American Civil War. The present day downtown area was built in the late 1800s and early 1900s on land that had been part of the original town site. The first white settlers in McIntyre County were Robert J. McClintock and his family, who arrived in 1824. In 1830, General James McDonough was elected governor of Georgia and he moved his headquarters from Atlanta to McIntyre County, which then became a part of his state. The town name originated with General McDonough’s service as commander-in-chief of the Confederate army during the American Civil War. From 1840 to 1850, agricultural interests were dominant in McIntyre County; however, by 1860 manufacturing had become an important sector of local economic life. By 1870, cotton had become one of McIntyre County’s main crops; however, it never became a major industry until after World War II when oil production began to increase in eastern Alabama and elsewhere throughout Southern United States

Mcdonough, Georgia is a small town in the state of Georgia. The population was 3,898 at the 2010 census. It is located in Troup County. The first permanent settler in Mcdonough was James A. McDonough, who arrived in 1851. His nephew and successor, John A. McNaughton, also founded a plantation here in 1865. In 1876, Colonel William Troup donated 4 square miles (10 km2) of land to the town for use as a public school district; it now includes part of downtown Mcdonough. One early resident of Mcdonough was Rev. George Washington Crittenden, who served as pastor of First Baptist Church from 1889 until his death in 1912. Other early residents include: Drs., Hiram Wofford and Alfred Bogue; Judges Edwin Ladd and Lucius Niles; Mayor Cuthbert Quesnel; Captains John Pritchard and Isaac Norris; Merchant Marines Lewis Molineux and Augustus Valentine Weems; disc jockeys Harry Houdini and Joe Kelly In 1860, Major General Nathan Bedford Forrest moved his cavalry camp from Macon to within sight of McDonough when he invaded Alabama to start a slave rebellion against American rule there – an event which has been called the beginning of the Civil War by some historians Some events associated with this time period include: an attack on a militia detachment by Forrest's men killing one man and wounding two others near present-day McClanahan Street vernacular restaurant next door on December 1st 1850 after they had refused to give up their arms ); community fraternal organization "Pioneers" formed January 15th 1863 ; Union troops burned down one hundred acres (40 hectares) of cotton plantations nearpresent-day McClanahan Street on February 10th 1865 during Confederate retreat from Daltonville ); Confederate forces burned down two blocks north of present-day Third Street between Clay Road and McLaughlin Avenue on November 11th 1864 during general Johnston's last stand before Atlanta surrendered After the war ended in 1865, many former Confederates returned to live or establish new homes around McDonough while awaiting trials or punishment for their actions during the conflict
McDonough is a small city in Fulton County, Georgia, United States. The population was 7,226 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Atlanta metropolitan area. The history of McDonough dates back to 1821 when a group of men from Scotland founded a farm named "McDonald" on what is now Forest Park Boulevard in present day Mcdonough. The first settler was John McDonald who arrived in 1822 and built his home on the lot that he purchased from the Scottish colonists. In 1827, David Denton bought the land which included what is now McDonough Avenue from John McDonald and began to develop it into a town. He named it after his father-in-law - Donald McIntosh - who had helped him purchase the land. In 1830, Denton organized a township committee which developed plan for an incorporated town with its own government and schools. On December 20, 1830, Donald McIntosh donated land east of Forest Park Boulevard to form the nucleus of today's town limits while also donating $100 towards construction of a courthouse and jail. On October 1, 1831, Mayor Jno Hickey laid down the cornerstone for what would become our first courthouse (now known as Pemberton Hall). The building was completed in 1834 and served as county seat until 1840 when Chattahoochee County was created and Courthouse Row became Courthouse Square. Over time several other buildings were added to Courthouse Row such as Jail No 1 (1868), Post Office (1872), Methodist church (1915), Presbyterian church (1948) and Health Department Building (1974).
