As Marietta, Georgia’s first city, rapidly grew in population and commerce during the 1800s, coffee began to be a popular commodity. The first Coffee Roasters shop opened in 1827 and by 1830, there were five Coffee Roasters in town. By 1835, the population of Marietta had reached 25,000 people and coffee began to be sold throughout the city. In 1836, a two-story roastery was built on Market Street near the intersection of Church and State streets. It was here that roasted coffee beans were stored for later sale. In 1840, two new Coffee Roasters were opened in town – one on High Street and one on Court Street. These shops Continued to roast coffee until the late 1800s when roasting became less common as it became more mechanized. However, some of Marietta’s earliest Coffee Roasters still operate today including Stroud & Sons (1930), Wilson Bros.(1941), Jarrell Bros.(1948) and Bourgeois (1976). The popularity of espresso continued to grow throughout Atlanta during World War II; however Marietta’s most famous espresso spot may have been Hooters at Peachtree Road and Ponce de Leon Avenue where Italian refugees started grinding their own beans in 1943 under the guidance of Angelo Torresi. The café closed down in 2006 but continues to serve as an important part of Atlanta history today!

The company grew to become one of the largest coffee companies in Atlanta. In 1965, the company merged with J.B. Lumber Company to form JBL Coffee Corporation.

Marietta, Georgia is a town in Fulton County, Georgia, United States. The population was 9,852 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Atlanta metropolitan area. The history of Marietta begins with Cherokee Indians and their traders who came to the area in the late 18th century looking for new land to take up. They named what is now Marietta after a small village in present-day Turkey Point on Oconee River. A post office called Indian Gap was established in 1795, and by 1812 it had become known as Marietta proper. In 1825, Captain John Smith discovered what would become known as Chattahoochee River and named it after his home country – Georgian Bay in Canada – he described as “a bay so wide that its whole surface (is) more than one hundred miles long” In 1847, General James Kenedy foundedanta Agricultural and Mechanical College (now Auburn University), which became an important center of education for African Americans throughout the South during the antebellum period. In 1865, parts of Cobb County were divided between Gwinnett County and Fulton County; Marietta became part of Cobb County. In 1901, a group of businessmen formed the City Council from a nucleus made up of five white men only and began developing plans for developing Marietta into a city with strong historic associations that could be attractive to businesspeople from inside and outside Atlanta The city's first mayor was Jno Ewell Jackson who served from 1895 until 1902 when he was succeeded by Wm Hallett Heflin Heflin ledMariettta through rapid growth beginning with annexations of several adjoining towns making it one large municipality by 1907 including Westnerdell Township (now Decatur), Eastnerdell Township (now Lithonia), Northside Township (later Roswell), Paulding Heights Village (later Parkland) on the east side of Interstate 25 near downtown and Midtown Towers on top of Peachtree Road just north of I-285 After World War II ended there were expansions such as annexation or purchase by other municipalities making sure all residents within municipal boundaries received services regardless whether they lived within or outside Atlanta limits In 1960 Atlantans voted to merge with neighboring suburb Dunwoody into Atlantica Incorporation which created over 1 million additional jobs over 10 years
