Loganville is a small town in north-central Georgia. It was founded in 1786 by the brother of James Logan, the first U.S. president. The town was named for Logan after he saved a group of people from being burned to death on a plantation in the area. In 1892, Loganville became an incorporated municipality and has been governed by a mayor and four trustees since then. The population of Loganville is about 9,000 residents. The primary means of transportation in the town is walking or biking; cars are few and far between. Loganville’s history can be traced back to several early settlers who arrived here during the early 1800s. One of these pioneers, John Beeson, settled here in 1802 and helped start what would become known as Beeson’s Millinery Factory. This factory produced clothing for both men and women until it closed its doors in 1902. Another pioneer, James Logan, also played an important role in this community during its infancy years. He donated land to make way for what would become Loganvilletown Cemetery which opened in 1828 near where he lived at that time. By 1840, when slavery ended in Georgia, many black families had relocated to this region (specifically northeast Georgia) because of free labor opportunities available there under the new system of racial segregation laws enacted following the American Civil War.. The post-war period saw some growth within Loganville thanks to refugees from Germany who were fleeing communism before it could take hold across much of Europe.. These newcomers brought with them their pottery skills which led to the development of several businesses around town including Donelson’s Lumber Co., National Mfg., Joplin Furniture Co., Mrs Dooley’s Pharmacy and two schools- one public and one private-. Many jobs were created during this time such as manufacturing jobs at Donelson’s Lumber Co.; white collar work at National Mfg.; truck driving for Joplin Furniture Co.; construction work at Mrs Dooley’s Pharmacy; and service jobs such as janitorial work at Donelson’s Lumber Co., National Mfg., Joplin FurnitureCo., Mrs Dooley’s Pharmacy, among others-. Today most jobs within local businesses are associated with services or retail trade however some manufacturing still takes place within certain sectors . Loganville is a small town in east-central Georgia, located on the Chattahoochee River. The population was 1,569 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Logan County seat of Decatur. The town began as a log cabin settlement in 1811, and was named after General Andrew Johnson's father-in-law, James Logan. In 1812, John Fenton built a mill on the river near present-day December 12th Street and Peachtree Road. The town grew rapidly during the 19th century with various commercial establishments developments including: a cotton gin in 1830; an ironmonger shop in 1840; a grocery store in 1851; and two churches (one hewed from logs) by 1860. By 1870, Loganville boasted 10 businesses and had its own schoolhouse, post office and railroad station. For several years during the 20th century, Loganville experienced rapid growth as an agricultural center with numerous farmers expanding their operations into other industries such as textiles or poultry processing along with construction of dams and reservoirs to improve irrigation systems for their crops. However, since 2000s there has been significant decline due to dwindling population size (−10% from 2007 to 2010), loss of jobs within local industry (-10% from 2002 to 2007), and increased competition from surrounding towns
