Fresh roasted coffee is a centuries-old tradition in Lilburn, Georgia. The first documented fresh roasted coffee was bought and sold by John Fayette in 1796. Coffee beans were roasted on the premises of the Fayette farm until 1857 when they were moved to a new location near the present day Fayette library. In 1898, W. C. Thomas opened his own roasting shop in Lilburn and began producing fresh roasted coffee for local consumers. By 1915, most of the original acreage for coffee production had been lost to development, but Thomas' legacy live on as one of the most important early pioneers of Lilburn's coffee industry. Today, Fresh Roasted Coffee continues to produce world-class quality beans from their current operation located adjacent to the old Fayette Library building on State Route 3 – providing locals and visitors with an intimate experience that is unlike any other place in town.

In Lilburn, coffee is a part of the town’s history. The first coffee beans were roasted in 1826 by two men, P.J. Capps and George Washington Hardee. Coffee was first brought to Georgia from Mexico in 1827 by Antonio Felix de la Vega and his family. In 1865, John Slaton founded the Slaton Coffee Company in Lilburn and began marketing coffee as Georgia’s best commodity product. The company continued to grow until it merged with Peet’s Coffee Corporation in 1984.
Lilburn is an unincorporated community in Fulton County, Georgia, United States. It is located on the Western border of the city of Atlanta. The population was 1,521 at the 2010 census. Lilburn has been home to many businesses and residents since it was first settled in 1881. Lilburn developed as a small cotton town due to its location on the Western edge of Atlanta and its access to nearby waterways. Its early settlers included Methodist missionaries from England who began working in Georgia in 1818. In 1881, a group of businessmen from Chattanooga bought land near Lilburn for $1 per acre and founded the town's first business, a grocery store. The town grew rapidly during the late 19th century due to its proximity to Atlanta and its position as one of several transportation hubs in Georgia. By 1910, Lilburn had become an important bedroom community forAtlanta with over 16 thousand residents living there alone or in close proximity to other institutions such as schools and hospitals. During World War II, Lilburn played an important role as a munitions plant supplying Atlanta with war materiel. Today, much of what once constituted Lilburn's downtown has been replaced by high-rise buildings housing various businesses and residential units. Despite this transformation, lil burn retains some aspects of its history including its historical downtown district which features brick buildings dating back to 1881 alongwith several historically significant churchesincluding First Baptist Church (founded in 1868), Emanuel African Methodist Episcopal church (1892), Christain Bible Chapel (1924),and Second Baptist Church (1945).

Lilburn was founded in 1814 by Colonel James W. Lilburn, a Revolutionary War veteran and slaveholder. The town grew rapidly after the opening of the Georgia Railroad in 1847, and by 1860 it had a population of over 100 people. The town was renamed Lilburn in 1881 after its first mayor, Augustus H. Lilburn. It remained an agricultural center until the early 20th century, when heavy industry began to take root in the area. In 1925, Lilburn's incorporation as a city made it one of Georgia's larger cities. By 1965, however, the population had decreased to about 50 people and most of the remaining industry ceased operations within 25 years.
