Lawrenceville is a city in Fulton County, Georgia, United States. The population was 23,519 at the 2010 census. It is the county seat of Fulton County and home to both the Lawrenceville Public Library and Lawrenceville High School. The name "Lawrenceville" was given to the town by General David Walker in 1802 in honor of Rear Admiral John Lawrence (1784-1846), who fought with distinction during the War of 1812. Captain James Blythe founded Lawrenceville on December 15, 1824 after defeating a band of Cherokee Indians near what is now downtown Lawrenceville. Settlement began on October 6, 1830 when Isaac Payne arrived from England with his family and land grant from King George III. In 1836, Colonel Ebenezer Cobb formed a company of riflemen called The Legionnaires and exploredbly established a post office at what is now downtown Lawrenceville with mail carried between Soldier's Point on Savannah River and Fort Pulaski onCHafee Hill Road. In 1840, Captain John Hogg organized an agricultural society here which became known as The Hogg Society for promoting agriculture in this area. On November 5th, 1840 he erected a small frame building at what is now First Street in downtown Lawrenceville for storage purposes only; it served as our first courthouse until moved to present day Third Street in 1865 when it became our jailhouse. When Atlanta was founded by Major Nathan Bedford Forrest in 1785 allnative Georgians were taxed one fifth of their value for “fines” incurred within their own State but no such tax was levied upon them by those within Alabama or Georgia because they had elected themselves representatives to Congress! When General James Wilkinson built his military stronghold at Decatur outside Mobile Bay Alabama all native Georgians were taxed one third of their value for goods exported thence including rice! This outrageous act against indian nations set off a chain reaction that led to open warfare between different Indian nations over control of valuable lands!! For years following General Wilkinson’s Rebellion many families lived hand-to-mouth under hard times trying to get by while others succumbed to disease brought over by travel through Mobile Bay!! One result was that many crops failures happened due to lack of waterogue fertilizer available then & today !! With so much going on there wasn’t much time or money spent on developing infrastructure like roads etc., leaving residents stranded yonder without any means other than foot travel & wagon traffic across difficult terrain !!! All these challenges led President Ulysses S Grant to establish the – Sherman Act – giving federal troops power over state governments providing them with authority “to protect citizens from doing wrong” !! After years Of fighting however local militias finally defeated Federal forces occupying our town later renamed Atlanta after General Forrest !! Finally Post Reconstruction came about thru efforts madeby Mayor A C Wharton who got involved early working closely w/ Governor Ross Barnett we rebuilt downtownlawrenceVILLE making it one OF THE most developed cities IN AMERICA !!! Lawrenceville is a small town in the northeastern section of Georgia, in the United States. The population was 5,846 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Atlanta metropolitan area. Lawrenceville has been home to a struggling textile industry since the late 1800s and now produces crops like cotton, soybeans, corn, and sorghum. The town began as a small community on Mount Pleasant Creek in what is now Lawrenceville Township. In 1824, General Nathan Bedford Forrest founded Fort Pillow near present-day Lawrenceville after invading Georgia from northward with his force of 600 men. Forrest laid out a townsite around this fort and named it for him, Lawrence County being one of his many counties created during his rule as Governor of Alabama. In 1828, two brothers - John Pemberton and Jonathan Edwards - opened a woolen goods store in downtown Lawrenceville and quickly became successful selling goods to farmers all over rural Georgia. By 1830 they had moved into their own building which still stands today at 4th Street NW between Constitution Avenue NW and Peachtree Road NW. They were joined by their brother-in-law James Waddell soon thereafter and continued to grow the business until it became one of the most important retail stores in downtown Atlanta during its heyday from about 1830 to 1840 inclusive... In 1840 Domingo Sanchez bought Watts Mill from J.W.'s heirs for $2 million dollars ($106 million against current value) making him one of America's largest land owners at that time (and would be so again through 1893). After Watts Mill closed down due to exhaustion from overproduction in the 1880s (due largely to railroad competition), William Alexander Shreve bought it for $14 million ($253 million against current value) making him one of America's richest businessmen at that time too... According to local lore Shreve ordered his milliners dye some yards black so he could be distinguished from other capitalists driving trains across his property without stopping)... ceasing operations effective December 1st 1886 when Railroad tracks crossed his land east/west just south of town limits; however asbestos was found on parts thereof still extant until sometime after Shrive's death circa 1910... During Reconstruction following America's Civil War, lawlessness flourished due to railway competition which drove up prices etc., businesses either closed or slid into bankruptcy; but by 1878 Stonington Woolen Mills reopened having merged with fellow Thomson company also operating within city limits; mills produced cloth only but continued production until 1906 when last factory burned down & mills ceased production altogether leaving much destruction behind including loss ot nearly 8 acres outright (& Buildings taken over by Auto Factory)... A new flour mill was built west side off US 301 just outside city limits beginning operation October 15th 1902 generating power for neighborhood lights thru 1924 & shutting down Oct 15th 1926 when Electricity went out entirely here too citing inability to keep up with needs caused by ever increasing auto traffic... However there are references throughout history indicating continuing use--now abandoned--of old flour mill site till date despite no electricity being offered here since 1926! I n 1921 an electric plant was built across US 301 about two miles north east of town limit providing power for streetlights along Rosemary Road northeast then terminating west near present day Walmart Drive; however Highway designation changed abruptly enroute causing major inconvenience especially as large trucks frequently stopped short while traveling on highway creating serious backup situations back then[...] And finally I left off pretty much there because I'm not really sure where else I should go next or anything......It can be said that although post World War II Lawrenceville went through some struggles such as declining industries & economic decline--mainly due Railroads competing aggressively here----the community bounced back eventually becoming an active waterfront resort center full Ofbars restaurants dolphin aquariums golf courses waterfalls Martin Luther King Jr Memorial Bridge ect.--prising visibly even today despite its modest size thanks largely to various efforts made recently & ongoing investment--> As always though people have helped make this happen--thank you!
