There has been a military presence in Lawrenceville since the early 1800s. The first permanent settler in the area was George Washington, who moved from Virginia in 1785. He named the community after himself, and it continued to be called Washington Court House until 1825. During the American Civil War, Lawrenceville served as a Union stronghold. On December 12, 1861, Confederate General Robert E. Lee surrendered at Appomattox Court House in Virginia. As a result of this event, Lawrenceville became an important center for Confederate sympathizers throughout the South. In 1865, Georgia statehood was granted to the United States by President Abraham Lincoln. As part of this process, Lawrenceville became an incorporated town under Georgia law on January 1, 1866. The population of Lawrenceville had increased to around 4500 by this time. The town's first mayor was John Troup (1847-1912). Other major leaders during its early years included Jno Henshaw (1859-1927), Wm Gwin (1861-1920), and Augustus Woodward (1870-1941). In 1906, Mayor Harry Laughlin helped found Atlanta's first city councilman organization and served as its first president from 1911 to 1912; he also founded Atlanta's largest real estate company. By World War II, Lawrenceville had become one of America's most heavily populated urban areas with over 11000 residents living in five boroughs: Midtown/Lawrenceville/East Harlem/West Side/Lenox Hill – all withinAtlanta City Limits – and surrounding suburban communities including Decatur Heights/Roswell Park/Canton Mills etc.. The population peaked at 150000 in 1950 but began trending downward soon thereafter due primarily to demographic factors such as high birth rates among white residentscompared with other ethnic groupsand increasing numbers of black residentsin central Atlanta., although there remains some communities which maintain heavy military populations such as Roswell Park and Lenox Hill.; however many families have nowigrated out of central Atlanta for economic reasons or political reasons such as Pembroke Pines being developed into a large retirement community for high ranking army officers

The Lawrenceville, Georgia Army National Guard was organized on December 12, 1907. The first unit to beraised in Lawrenceville was the 1st Regiment Infantry of the Georgia Volunteer Infantry Corps. The 1st Regiment Infantry served from 1907-1909 and from 1911-1912. In 1916, the 2nd Regiment Infantry was raised in Lawrenceville. It fought in World War I as a part of the United States First Division (). After the war, it returned home and participated in additional military campaigns until disbanded on September 15, 1919. On November 3, 1927, the 3rd Regiment Infantry was organized with Headquarters at 5 South Main Street in Lawrenceville and two companies at 103 North Broad Street. It served until 1937 when it relocated to Macon County (). In 1938-1939, while stationed at Camp Wheeler (now Governors Hill), the 4th Regiment Infantry was raised with Headquarters at 205 S Broad St., later renamed Camp Grant (later Fort Stewart). It served during World War II as a part of General George C Marshall's Supreme Commander's Army () which coordinated all American forces fighting in Europe (). Afterward it reverted to its original name for operations back home (), 4th Regimental Infantry
Lawrenceville is a small town in Fulton County, Georgia. The population was 1,951 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Athens-Clarke Metropolitan Statistical Area. Lawrenceville was founded in 1825 by James Lawrence and his family. The town became a community after being organized as a village on December 15, 1828. On January 1, 1834, Lawrenceville incorporated as a city under the name of Athens. In 1870, Athens merged with other towns in Fulton County to form the Athens-Clarke metropolitan area. The downtown area of Lawrenceville is home to several stores and restaurants including the Signet Jewelers store and Biltmore Inn dining room which are both open 24/7/365. There are also several churches located in or around downtown including First Baptist Church (founded 1865), Christ Episcopal Church (1899), Methodist Episcopal Church (1911), and Presbyterian church (1926). Additionally, there are few public buildings remaining from when Athens-Clarke had more than 100 residents such as the high school (now known as Jefferson High School) and library which were built in 1925 and 1928 respectively. Today, many businesses have closed or moved out of town due to technological advances or better competition from other areas throughout Georgia; however, one business that has been keeping lawrenceVILLE alive is J&J's Pizza which opened its first location here in 1992 and continues to serve up classic pizza night each month even though it doesn't have any brick ovens left!

The city is located in the southeastern corner of Fulton County and is bordered to the east by Coweta Lake and to the west by Gwinnett County. It is part of the Atlanta metropolitan area. Lawrenceville has been known as "The Birthplace of Coca-Cola" because it manufactured most of America's Coca Cola products starting with its first bottling plant opened in 1893. In 1912, General James Longstreet (1807-1892), one of cotton picker turned politician from Lawrenceville led a successful campaign to make Lawrenceville an unincorporated community with voting privileges; this helped set off what would become a long period of growth for the city over time. In 1924–1927, several large Coca-Cola plants were built in various parts of America during what would be called "the Great Coke Campaign." These plants produced some 156 million gallons (500 billion liters) of soda water and other soft drinks per year at their peak production levels before World War II interrupted these operations due to Prohibitionism
Lawrenceville was founded in 1821 by General James Wilkinson. The city became a slaveholding center and the capital of the Creek Nation after Georgia acquired it from the Cherokee nation. The city was renamed Atlanta in 1835, when the state of Georgia published an proclamation declaring that all former Cherokee lands east of the Appalachian Mountains were to be divided among its citizens. Lawrenceville's growth as a commercial center came in response to its location at the intersection of two major railroads and its ability to serve as a gateway into eastern Cobb County. In 1868, during Reconstruction, Atlanta began construction on what would become Ponce de Leon Avenue, which led to increased development in Lawrenceville. After World War II, Lawrenceville experienced rapid growth as a suburb of Atlanta. It reached its current size following the suburbanization of Atlantans in the 1960s and 1970s.
