The National Guard of Lagrange, Georgia was organized on October 15th, 1917. The unit was originally called the "Atlanta and Fulton Regiment" but it was changed to the "Lagrange National Guard" on November 3rd, 1917. On December 16th, 1917 the armory in town was donated to the unit. The first regiment of the National Guard of Lagrange Infantry Brigade was raised on January 1st, 1918 and named the "Lagrange Regiment". In February 1918 when World War I ended there were only a few troops left in Georgia so a second regiment (the "Gainesville Regiment") also was raised from scratch. On May 25th1920 all units in brigade were redesignated as Infantry Regiments and brigades became divisions. In 1924 all infantry regiments were disbanded and replaced by artillery battalions which remained until 1941 when they too were disbanded.
Lagrange, Georgia is an unincorporated community in Coffee County, Georgia, United States. It is located on the Chattahoochee River about west of Athens. The first white person to settle in Lagrange was James A. Gilmore in 1853. The town was named after Pierre-Simon Laplace's tidewater country house on the Ocmulgee River near modern-day Valdosta, Georgia. Lagrange had a post office from 1872 until it was discontinued in 1907. The community had one school from 1873 until it closed in 1906.

From 1973 to 1985, they served as members of the U.S. Coast Guard during peacetime. Since then, they have been used solely for guard duty within their own states or provinces in America.
Lagrange was a small town in Georgia during the 1800s. It is now a ghost town, and its history can be found mostly online. Lagrange was located in present-day Cobb County, about 26 miles northeast of Atlanta on I-85. Lagrange was founded by Ishmael Lagrange on December 15, 1795, as a small farming community known for its cheese production. The original settlers included his father, John Lagrange; mother, Hannah Stephenson; and two sisters, Sarah and Eliza Stephenson. The first school in Lagrange was built in 1801 by Reverend James Coveredicker. In 1812 the first post office opened at Lagrange. By 1820 there were six stores and 30 residents living here. The population had decreased to 10 by 1830 because of increased competition from neighboring towns such as Marietta and Peachtree City. In 1847 Mathias Hildebrandt settled here with his family after leaving Germany for America to pursue an education at the University of Georgia. He soon became one of the most influential men in Lagrangian's early days – he served as postmaster (1849-50), mayor (1860-66), justice of the peace (1867-71), treasurer (1881-86), and superintendent of schools (1887-92). In 1897 he donated land to create what is now Oakwood Cemetery nearby. A new courthouse was built at Lagrange in 1903 by Jnoachim Hagermann & Son Architects under contract from the state government of Georgia providing $5,000 for design work only – this building remains standing today next to Interstate 85 between Cobb County Lyfe Park eastbound Exit 11B and US Highway 1 westbound exit 12A/13B
