Lagrange, Georgia is a town in Fulton County, Georgia, United States. The population was 11,693 at the 2010 census. Lagrange is part of the Atlanta metropolitan area. The community was named after Jean Baptiste Lagrange (1746-1827), an artist and scientist who did important work in calculus and mechanics. In 1820, he founded the first high school in the United States and was also responsible for creating a system of public roads in what is now Lagrange Township. In 1845 he donated land to build a college which became University of Georgia; today, it is one of 26 universities in the United States that are member institutions of the Association for American Universities. Lagrange has been home to many notable people over its history: James Baldwin moved to Lagrange in 1951 and wrote his famous novel "The Fire Club" there; Glenn Ford played Officer Tom Sawyer on "Saved by the Bell" and other television programs filmed at Lagrange Elementary School; actor/director Sam Peckinpah lived here from 1949 until his death in 1976; author Toni Morrison spent her final years living here before moving to New York City; filmmaker Spike Lee took up residence here while filming "Do The Right Thing" on nearby DeKalb Avenue

Lagrange, Georgia is a small town in Cobb County, Georgia, United States. It was founded on December 8, 1827 by Nicholas-Jacques Lagrange and his wife Marie-Anne de la Tour. The first post office in Lagrange opened on February 17, 1828. In 1870, the name of the town was changed to Lithonia after Latham Phillips Lithonia of Rome Township in Fulton County. On October 15, 1920, the name of the town was again changed to Lagrange after Lieutenant General John H. Lagrange who fought in World War I and later served as Commandant of cadet schools at West Point. The population of lagrangeville was 1,752 as of the 2010 census.
