Kingsland, Georgia has a rich military history dating back to the early 1800s. The town was founded by General James Robertson in 1802, and its connections to the military have led to it being known as the "Military Capital of the South." In addition to its role in Confederate war efforts, Kingsland also played a significant role in the War Between the States. During that conflict, both sides turned to King's Landing for help, and Richardsons' home was one of several areas targeted by Confederate snipers.
Kingsland is a small town in northeastern Georgia. The population was 5,620 at the 2010 census.[1] It is part of the Atlanta metropolitan area. The first people to settle in Kingsland were farmers who came from South Carolina and related families. They began farming in 1825 and soon began trading with other parts of Georgia and Alabama for goods produced by settlers in those states. By 1830, some citizens had built a log courthouse on the old site of what is now King's County Courthouse Square. In 1835, the town became one of seven counties that made up Fulton County; it remains one of its largest today. In 1840, a group of local investors founded the Kingsland cotton gin to process cotton grown around the town. The gin still operates as an industrial plant making country whites into clothiers, milliners, and other items until recently. From 1845-1847, Presidents James K. Polk and Franklin D. Roosevelt addressed meetings of the Georgia General Assembly at King's Landing while living there; they are both buried there along with many others associated with early Kingsland life such as judge John Hogg (1799-1871), lawyer Arent Jones (died 1865), physician Drury Coleman (1802-1875), minister Cyrus Vance (1800-1864) and legislator Addison Porterfield (1793-1876). Kingsland went through several changes during the late 19th century before becoming a largely rural community once again during World War II when large numbers of men from nearby Atlanta were drafted into service in various wars throughout Europe and Asia including Japan

Kingsland is located in Georgia, on the border of Marshall County and Cobb County. The town was founded by Captain John Kingsbury in 1824. The community was named for King George II of England. It grew rapidly during the 1830s and 1840s, thanks to its location at the intersection of two important wagon roads, the Savannah and Dahlonega Railroad and the Atlanta and Chattanooga Railroad. By 1851, Kingsland had a population of 1,500 people and was one of the largest towns in Georgia. The town's growth stopped after 1851 when a canal project became necessary to bring water from a river near Savannah to drive downriver to Kingsland. Because there wasn't enough water available to support the town, it quickly declined. In 1893, Kingsland merged with nearby Milledgeville into what is now Cobb County. However, due to its small size (just over 10 square miles), there wasn't much development done until more recently; most buildings were built between 1920 and 1930. Today, Kingsland still retains many of its original features such as an opera house/theater complex (opened in 1927), a Masonic Lodge (founded in 1929), a high school (opened in 1952), and several churches including First Baptist Church (founded in 1792).
Kingsland was founded in 1808 by Captain James Cook and his crew on the Bounty. It was named for King George III of England, who had given an initial donation of land to the colony. The town grew rapidly during the early 1800s, thanks in part to its location on the navigable Chattahoochee River. In 1821, Kingsland became a separate municipality, and in 1858 it became a state parish.
