Kingsland is a town in Cobb County, Georgia, United States. The population was 10,502 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Atlanta metropolitan area. Kingsland has been inhabited by humans for over 5,000 years. The first European to visit Kingsland was the Spanish captain Antonio Fernandez de Arellano on October 3, 1542. He named it Santiago de la Florida after his homeland of Santo Domingo in Hispaniola. The community developed around a log schoolhouse and church which were built in 1836 and 1840 respectively. A post office was established in 1845, and became known as Kingsland because of its then-rustic architecture. The first store opened in 1851, and the first house erected in 1857. In 1907 an oil well was drilled near Kingsland; although initial production was modest, this led to increased development due to its location and proximity to other resources such as refineries and pipelines. In 1960 Kingman Pty Ltd., an Australian mining company leased land adjacent to the Well Venture Field within present day Kingsland limits for storage of coal dust from various mines under construction in that area at that time; subsequent operations resulted in serious environmental damage caused by overloading underground pipes withcoal dust created when mine personnel used chain saws to cut open dunnage seams underlying older dugouts). In 1984 crude oil began flowing from an exploratory well drilled nearby into downtown Kingsland resulting in major cleanup efforts which continue today; this event helped spur heavy industry development around downtown areas including restaurants, retail stores and residential developments since then culminating with the opening of Interstate 285 east of downtown on what is now called Kingman Road just west of I-285's interchange with exit 55 (the old airport property) - making Kingsland one of only two cities located on I-285 between Atlanta/Buford Airport westward through Gainesville/Marietta Airport eastward (the other being Roswell) - serving as both a commercial center for local businesses ceasing operations along I-285 southward into Decatur County while also becoming home to numerous government agencies as well as providing new jobs for many residents hereabouts during periods when manufacturing has not yet resumed following previous joblessness rates during most recent economic downturns throughout much Southeast region during late 2009 through early 2011 notwithstanding efforts made by communities across these same regions throughout preceding several decades more recently nationally via multiple national marketing campaigns promoted hereinthrough by respective state governments hereinthroughduring ensuing several months particularly designed jointly herethroughby respective state governors wherein such advertising effects are intended primarily within populous counties within each respective state thereby achieving statewide objectives hereby – all without any taxpayer or individual funding hereinabove specified therein notwithstanding

Kingston was founded by the Cherokee in 1736. The town was named for King George II of Great Britain, who had granted it land in 1731. In 1801, the Georgia General Assembly created Kingston County, and in 1847 it became a part of Atlanta. The town's population peaked at 25,000 in 1950 but has declined since then. Today, Kingston is a small farming community with a few hundred residents.
Kingsland was founded in 1824, by John King and his brother James. The first post office in Kingsland was established in 1827. In 1865, the town was consolidated with neighboring Duluth. The Nixon family owned the land that now includes Kingsland for many years. The King family also donated much of their land to the community during this time. In 1908, Kingsland residents voted to annex part of Atlanta and name it Kingsland after themselves. In 1915, a new school was built in Kingsland and named after Mrs. Alice Roosevelt Longworth. A power plant was built near the community in 1951, which contributed to its rapid growth over the following years. On July 6, 2006, King Land School District merged into Fulton County Schools system effective July 1st of that year. As part of this merger all KING LAND students attended FSU from kindergarten through 12th grade from then on until they transferred to county-operated schools starting with 7th grade
