Kingsland, Georgia was founded in 1795 by Captain James Kingsbury. The town grew rapidly from its early days as a small farming community to become an important center for trade and commerce in the 1800s. The area now known as Kingsland was first settled by Alabamians who were attracted to the fertile land and natural resources available here. By 1828, the town had reached its current size and importance. Kingstown became one of the most important commercial centers in southeastern Georgia. It was home to a number of successful businesses including a cotton gin, shoe store, bakery, post office, and sawmill. In 1885, Kingsland was renamed Atlanta after United States President George WashingtonAtlanta became one of the largest cities in America and quickly emerged as one of the leading cultural hubs of its time. In addition to its significance as a commercial center and cultural hub, Atlanta also played an important role in creating Georgia's identity as a state-owned republic during this period. As part of this process, Atlanta experienced rapid growth which led to many new construction projects such as the city's first subway system and numerous buildings that remain iconic today such as Centennial Hall or Peachtree Center Park. Today, Atlanta continues to be one of America's most vibrant cities with major growth happening within its corporate boundaries while also experiencing significant population growth outside of it due largely to immigration and economic stagnation within metropolitan areas across America throughout much recent history
Kingsland is a small town in northern Fulton County, Georgia, United States. The population was 1,864 at the 2010 census. Kingsland is part of the Atlanta metropolitan area. It began as a thoughtless rural outpost on the Chattahoochee River in 1824 and grew to become one of the most important cotton towns in the south during Reconstruction. Kingsland was founded by General Andrew Jackson's brother-in-law, Captain James Robertson (1787–1850), when he and his family moved from Tennessee to what is now Kingsland in 1824. Captain Robertson named their new settlement after King George III of England who had recently reigned over Great Britain. At first, only men were allowed to live there because local farmers did not have money to build roads or buy goods from outside traders. However, within five years, women had started moving into the town too and by 1830 it boasted a blacksmith shop and three churches. In 1835, Kingstoun Creek was diverted eastward so that water could be piped into the town from an existing well near present day Peachtree Road; this made Kingsland one of the most developed areas along the Chattahoochee River before it became notorious for its extensive flooding caused by heavy rains during winter months In 1840s John Wesley Hardee purchased large tracts of land around Kingsland and began developing it into a plantations economy with slave labor. The river transportation available then made this possible - goods such as rice were brought upriver across rivers auxiliaries such as Canoe Creek while slaves worked on long flatboats called catboats which took them downriver again Kingsland's rapid growth came to an end following Reconstruction when white Democrats regained control of Atlanta in 1878. With all blacks out of work following Reconstruction many African Americans relocated to counties such as Cobb and Gwinnett where opportunities for employment existed
