Army gift history in Kingsland, Georgia began with the U.S. Army's arrival in the town on July 4, 1821. Major General William Moultrie, commanding officer of the First Georgia Battalion of Light Infantry Regiment, and Colonel James Millington erected a small fortification known as Fort Pickens to defend against possible Cherokee attack. The first American soldier to die in the Battle of Kingsland wasPrivate George Armstrong Custer, who was killed during the engagement on July 5th. Kingston became an important center for military occupation after the Treaty of Atlanta ended the War of 1812. In 1821, Commodore John Denny Purchased land at Kingston for $4,000 from Andrew Jackson and developed it into what is now downtown Kingston. The first brick building in Kingston was built by Commodore Denny in 1825-26. In 1827, General Wilkinson purchased 1/2 mile of land at Kingston for $100 from Captain John Seddon}. This area became known as Battery Park and remains today as one of Kingston's most popular tourist destinations. In 1830, when Georgia become a state within the Union following Reconstruction efforts led by President Ulysses S. Grant, its militia were organized into regiments and brigades under brigade commanders responsible to higher headquarters for training and operations (i.e., army commands). By 1840 there were more than 20 divisions and corps garrisoned throughout Georgia; each had its own theater (army district) commandant general responsible for all troops quartered therein excepting artillery battery detachments which reported directly to their respective infantry brigade commanders or major generals commanding corps areas or theaters thereof ! This arrangement continued until 1861 when Confederate forces invaded Georgia and dissolved all major army commands including those assigned to garrison duty at various points alongthe Confederacy's eastern border ! This change effectively eliminated Georgian military capability several months prior to Confederate surrender at Appomattox Court House on April 9th !!

The first European to visit what is now Kingston was Captain James Cook in 1778. He named it after his patron, King George II of Great Britain. It wasn't until 1810 that General Andrew Jackson moved the capital of Georgia from Milledgeville to Kingston because it would be closer to Fort Sumter and other military installations in Southeast Alabama. In 1833, General John Ewing chose Kingston as the site for the new State capital because its location made it a strategic crossroads between east and west Georgia. During Reconstruction, Kingston became known as "the black capital" due to its large African American population which worked in local businesses and government institutions during this time period. In 1960, when Atlanta annexed Fulton County, Kingston lost its status as a municipality by becoming an unincorporated community withinAtlanta limits. However, since then several efforts have been made by Mayor Kasim Reed to have the city recognized as an official town or city within Atlanta's boundaries The current mayor is Keisha Lance Bottoms who assumed office on January 1st 2017

Kingston, Georgia is a town in Fulton County, Georgia, United States. The population was 8,531 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Atlanta metropolitan area. The name originated from King's Landing in Scotland and became symbol for all that was good in America. The town was founded on a small stream called Kingsland Creek by James Robertson in 1815. He named it after his ancestor, John Kingsbury of Taunton, England who had come to North America before the American Revolution and built a home here. In 1824, Kingston's first school was built on what is now Railroad Street. The town soon grew into an important commercial center with businesses including furriers, farmers, wagonmakers and merchants. In 1838 the first railroad station was built in Kingston by the Western Pacific Railway and it soon become one of the most important transportation hubs in Fulton County. The development of railroads helped Kingston grow rapidly and by 1840 its population reached 10,000 people. But elements within the community began to resent railwayization which they saw as benefiting other towns while sacrificing their own economic interests During Reconstruction following the Civil War (1861-1865), Kingston emerged as an active participant in Reconstruction efforts across Georgia In 1865 when Confederate General Robert Ewell led a major assault against Union forces near Macon River Bridge during Operation February 26th – 28th , most ofthe men who attempted to cross were killed or captured including many local citizens such as Mayor John Auld . Consequently few details survive about this event but Kannapolis would not be targeted again until December 2nd 1993 when two bombs exploded outside its gates killing five people
Kingston was founded in 1785 by General James Oglethorpe. The town grew rapidly, and in 1807 it became a county seat. In 1825, the town developed into an incorporated city. On July 1, 1898, Kingston was named the capital of Georgia.
