Kennesaw is a city in the U.S. state of Georgia, on the Chattahoochee River. The population was 46,914 at the 2010 census. Kennesaw is the county seat of Fulton County and has been since 1801. It was founded by George Washington and named for his father, James Kennesaw, an officer in the Continental Army. The first permanent white settlement in what is now Kennesaw Township was established by Captain John Mercer in 1799 on land he had bought from the Chickasaws. In 1805, General Andrew Jackson moved his army through here to attack General Creek's forces at Allatoona Hill, just east of present-day Atlanta. After leading a charge that routed Creek's force, Jackson ordered Mercer to build a small fortification known as Fort Cobb on the bluff overlooking the river below which Kennesaw would be built. The town developed around this fort and its accompanying mills until 1815 when hostilities ceased and it reverted to Indian control. In 1815, Colonel Nathan Bedford Forrest purchased 1/4 mile (0 km) of north-south road from Alabama Governor Thomas Telford for $5 per mile (1 țara). This route became known as Forrest Road and served as one of Atlanta's main thoroughfares until after World War II when it was made into divided highway system Interstate 20 through both Georgia and Alabama. As part of efforts to create suburban development near downtown Atlanta during the late 1960s and 1970s, developers began purchasing large tracts of forested land south of I-20 for use as rural development plots; much like what took place in Kennesaw during those years.. Today's downtown area with its numerous stores, restaurants, bars and other businesses lines Main Street throughout most of southern Fulton County while parts extending out into northwestern DeKalb County off I-20 serve as suburbs for areas such as Decatur or Johnsdale.. However despite their physical separation downtown Chattanooga still feels close due primarily to Interstate 24 which bisects downtown evenly between them making it easy to get between them without having to go all the way out into Fulton County

Kennesaw, Georgia is a town in Fulton County, Georgia, United States. The population was 10,898 at the 2010 census. Kennesaw is located on the north side of the Chattahoochee River and bordered by Towns of Rome Ford to the east and west, Carrollton to the north and south, and Jonesborough to the east. It was founded on December 16, 1802 by Captain John Kennesaw as an unhealthy village on the frontier between present-day Cobb County and Gwinnett County. The first white settler in Kennesaw was William Mackall who built a cabin in 1803. By 1810 only about 20 people lived in Kennesaw with no churches or schools. A mill was built soon after by James McNeely for grinding flour for local traders. In 1811 a schoolhouse was built but it burned down two years later due to a fire that also destroyed nearby homes. In 1815 Elisha Peake set up a store in what is now Kennesaw with two barrels of lead he had mined from Cherokee Creek near serve as his business model for selling goods not available locally such as breads, gingerbread houses (at this time still made out of dough), cheese, eggs and other items not easily carried overland from where they were raised or brought in trade from other parts of Georgia or Tennessee. The first post office opened in 1865 which served as both a trading point with travelers coming through Kennesaw from more distant points alongthe river than Cobb County then could offer merchandize including raw materials used especially for manufacturing like cottonseed oil etc., mail order groceries unavailable at that time such as ice cream scoops which are still sold today at most convenience stores throughout North America! In 1886 George Denny bought 5 acres (2 ha) near where modern day US Highway 4 splits off from I-285 forming what would become known as Dennyville until it became part of Atlanta when that city was formed; much later this land would be developed into Druid Hills Park named after him – one of many areas enjoying rapid growth during Atlantans’ heyday following World War II thanks largely to African American sharecroppers working their land while White Americans continued attending factory jobs! In 1901 Dr J C Rankin came to live in what is now downtown Kennesaw opening what would become one of Georgias’ leading medical practices providing services free of charge to all citizens regardless race or social class! Kennesaw was founded in 1821 by Captain William Kennesaw and his wife, Anne. The town quickly grew and became a center for commerce and the arts. In 1875, the city was renamed Atlanta after its first mayor, John A. Logan.
