When the Kennesaw Coast Guard was founded on December 5, 1915, it was a small organization with just a single post. The Coast Guard's first duty was to keep people and property safe from pirates and marauders. It wasn't until 1919 that the Coast Guard began providing services for the general public. Through the years, different gifts have been given to the Coast Guard by citizens of Kennesaw. Kennesaw is a small town in Georgia named after General George C. Marshall, who served as the first Chief of Staff to U.S. President Franklin D. Roosevelt and then was responsible for creating the United States Army during World War II. Kennesaw is located in the Unincorporated Fulton County region of northeast Georgia, about 25 miles (40 km) south of Atlanta and 10 miles (16 km) north of Marietta. The population was 7,752 at the 2010 census[1] and 8,711 at the 2013 estimate[2]. The name comes from Creek Chief Kennesaw's statement that "The land hereabouts belongs to all of us" (quoted in History Today). The town was platted in 1873 by Jno. Aiken,[3] who also built a sawmill and grist mill on what is now River Road east of center town. By 1889, Aiken had five stores, two schools, a whitesmith shop, two churches and a post office. In 1915, when Kennesaw became an incorporated municipality,[4], it had 12 businesses with 1 telephone subscribers; three churches; one school; one jail; one doctor; four farmers; four blacksmiths; six labourers; sixteen pets including ferrets, rabbits, cats and dogs - most kept by Mrs. Wareham home/farmstead[5]: "All these animals were collected as part of Project Mammal Paws which lasted from 1933-1939".[6] In 1918 there were 154 homes in Kennesaw Township with an average value of $8 per month.[7]: "Only ten years ago this township [sic] bustled with people...Aiken Estates [the development where today's central business district stands], Prospect Heights [now known as Belleview Avenue], Springdale Farms [now known as Westwood Drive], Indian Trail Landing [now known as Riverside Drive]...were still being rented out for summer rentals."[8]: One hundred years later that number has decreased to just fourteen dwellings: "just fifteen rental units remain within city limits", but they are worth an estimated $2 million each:[9][10]: "Today’s Kennesaw Village Center – once home to over 100 residents – is onlyskin deep [...] Its banks are lined with single-family homes dating back to 1925 [...] Overlooked on First Saturday mornings are some early 20th century commercial buildings […] Now entire blocks have been redeveloped into mixed-income neighborhoods".[11]: Asbestos removal company giant Xcel Energy announced plans to build a new plant outside the town limits – 75 acres (30 ha) next to Parklane Shopping Center – spurring local opposition which included boycotts by nearly every store owner opposed anything having anything whatsoever do with energy production or jobs:[12][13][14][15]: It didn't take long for citizens band together against their common Enemy: their own government officials […] In late November 2011 representatives from various organizations met at Cherokee Nation Headquarters […] They presented evidence that while they may not always be able to agree upon everything […] they want those same leaders puttiing their feet up"[16],[17]; followed quickly by demonstrations outside City Hall opposing any move forward until such time as asbestos liability waivers could be negotiated between Xcel Energy lobbyists and local business owners:[18],[19]. Eventually negotiations led to construction starting in late 2012 on what became known locally as The Plant Site,[20][21]: much Toressee Coliseum Authority CEO Donnie Stephens saying “We’re going ahead without them because we can live without them but we don’t want them here†after community members boycotted his inauguration ceremony on January 6th due to concerns about job security upcoming should the plant come online)[22]. On July 5th 2014 construction finally stopped following heavy rains caused flooding inside building causing around $100M dollars worth damage along with many arrests includingCEO Stephens himself
The Coast Guard has a rich and colorful history that is full of tradition and culture. The earliest Coast Guard units were organized in 1795 as the Revenue Cutter Service. In 1847, the service was divided into two branches, the United States Navy’s Naval Militia and the Coast Guard Reserve. The first U.S. Coast Guard vessel to be commissioned was USS Constitution on November 5, 1847. As time passed, more and more coastal communities requested help from the Coast Guard in various ways including search and rescue missions, law enforcement activities, evacuation efforts during natural disasters such as hurricanes or earthquakes, and even providing supplies to local farmers during wartime. In 1951, both branches of the Coast Guard were merged into one organization under the name United States Coast Guardsman (UASC). Throughout its history, there have been many changes that have occurred with regards to the Coastal Guardsmen themselves including women Officers being appointed in 1975 (the first female enlisted member of a UASC unit), increased deployments throughout America’s armed forces due to911 terrorist attacks (including Operation Neptune’s Spear which saw over 2200 members of the Coast Guard deployed along with other military personnel to support responses.), merging with other related agencies such as Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) for anti-drug operations., becoming an international force through Headquarters Marine Corps Forces Command (HMCFCO) - which currently oversees all functions within Marine Corps Forces Europe - expanding their role beyond domestic shores into adjacent waters during times of peace/warzones., being authorized by Congress to use firearms while performing their duties., establishment of Detachment 1st Special Purpose Boat Squadron (DPBS) – later renamed Helicopter Wing - within Headquarters Marine Corps Forces Command specifically for homeland security support tasks after 9/11/2001 Additional changes have come about since then such as allowing female officers appointed to command detachments outside of San Diego County.; however, these latest changes are not without controversy as many feel that they do not go far enough in meeting needs such as increasing helicopter availability for homeland security patrols when needed while still keeping active duty members available for combat roles should need arise; furthermore some feel that this expanded role does not take full advantage of never before available resources like OH-6B “Sea Knight†helicopters which can provide cavalry style support when necessary

Kennesaw is a city in Fulton County, Georgia, United States. The population was 17,711 at the 2010 census. Kennesaw is one of the most historically significant cities in Georgia. It was founded by planter and politician James Oglethorpe on what is now the north side of town on November 10, 1803. Kennesaw was named after General George Washington's headquarters at Mount Vernon, Virginia. The city growth began with the arrival of white settlers in 1814 as part of a larger wave of immigration to Georgia that followed the American Revolution. By 1830, Kennesaw had become an important center for cotton production and commerce. The city quickly became known for its architecture—the first brick buildings were erected in 1834—and its conservatism during the era when slavery was legal in America. The end of slavery led to increased black migration to Kennesaw from throughout the South and into northern Alabama and Mississippi during Reconstruction; this migration helped create new African American businesses and neighborhoods within Kennesaw limits. During World War II, Kennesaw played an important role as a munitions plant due to its location nearAtlanta and its ability to produce aircraft parts needed for war efforts overseas. The plant closed in 1976 but has been cited as an example of how technological advances can have negative effects on local economies
Kennesaw was founded in 1802 by Captain John Kennesaw and his family. The town grew up around the Kennesaw River, which served as a transportation hub for early settlers. In 1814, the Union army burned down the original town center to prevent it from being rebuilt. In 1865, Kennesaw was renamed Atlanta after General George B. McClellan's victory at Gettysburg.
