The Coast Guard has been involved in the protection of our country's coasts since 1790. Today, the Coast Guard arrives at every location where a fishing or boating accident might occur to help prevent any potential injuries or fatalities. In addition to its primary purpose of helping keep our coastline safe, the Coast Guard also provides basic services such as Search and Rescue, maritime security and law enforcement. The Johns Creek Coast Guard Auxiliary was founded in 1922 and is the oldest coast guard agency in Georgia. The Auxiliary provides support to the Coastal Guard Department of the Georgia State Police, which patrols Georgians’ coastline.
Johns Creek is a small town in Fulton County, Georgia. The population was 1,711 at the 2000 census. It is part of the Atlanta metropolitan area. The first European to visit Johns Creek was James A. Robertson in 1814, and he named it for John Thomson, 3rd Baron Kelvin of Scotland, who had been ambassador to Russia during the reign of Alexander II. In 1819, settlers from Virginia founded a settlement on land that now makes up the southern border of Johns Creek. The first store opened in 1823 and by 1830 there were 10 stores in the town. In 1835 a post office was established and by 1840 there were 25 businesses in the town. In 1846 large numbers of slaves were brought over from Africa to work on plantations near Gainesville; many children born into slavery grew up here and some later became successful landowners or politicians in their own right. At times during its history Johns Creek struggled economically because cotton farming required large inputs such as labor but it has also seen growth due to various industries including information technology and transportation which are now headquartered in nearby Decatur or Roswell

The first coast guard tower was built in 1914 and the first cutter, HMCS Acadia was commissioned in 1922. In 1978, the Coast Guard merged with the Department of Homeland Security to form DHS which continues to operate both components today. Johns Creek is located on the southern edge of downtownAtlanta, just east of Interstate 5/I-285 interchange. It borders two other cities: Roswell Park on the west side and Decatur on the east side. Downtown Atlanta includes many shopping malls as well as several large financial institutions like Merrill Lynch & Co., Chase Bank & Co., JBL Corporation, Coca Cola Company et al.. The Chattahoochee River forms much of Johnson Creek's border with Cobb County to the north and northeast; Gwinnett County lies immediately south of Johnson Creek while Marietta lies just northwest of it across I-75 from Interstate 85/I-285 interchange
Johns Creek was a natural stream that formed in the Georgia mountains and flowed through the Appalachian Mountains. The creek eventually empties into the Chattahoochee River.
