One of gainesville’s defining moments came on November 20th, 1969 when two planes crashed into downtown killing all 11 passengers and crew onboard including Mayor Floyd Dyer Jr.. This event remains oneofgainesville’s most notorious incidents and has helped contributetotheunsatisfied Residents feeling towards their government ever since. On November 12th, 1990 another plane crashes into downtown killing all 5 passengers on board after taking off from local airport without declaring an emergency! This crash also had a significant impact on city life as no commercial flights were allowed to land at that specific airport until 2003 due to safety concerns following those crashes! Today there are many restaurants and stores available inside or outside of downtown while still keeping some sense of privacy compared to when these businesses first opened back then! One such restaurant notable for its loss prevention techniques is called “Pineapple Wars” which features fruit flies instead of spiders!!!!!! Another popular spot among locals for food is called Big Cat BBQ which offers up variety items such asigator meatballs!, bear claws BBQ sauce,,and more! Gainesville is a city in metro Atlanta and the county seat of Cobb County, Georgia. The population was 68,812 at the 2010 census. It has been founded by English settlers in 1795 as a small station on the Western and Atlantic Railroad. Gainesville became an incorporated town on December 15, 1881. In 1907, it annexed portions of Fulton County to become its own municipality. On February 14, 1959, Gainesville again became an incorporated town when all of Gwinnett County was merged into the metropolitan area of Atlanta. The history of Gainesville can be traced back to 1795 when English colonists landed in what is now known as Gainesville Township on the Western and Atlantic Railroad. The first permanent settler was Joseph Hereford who built a cabin on the banks of Chattahoochee River opposite today's University Park Elementary School. There were several other families that moved into this area before 1800 including John Reynolds who established a sawmill and gristmill on Forest Creek near where I-285 crosses over from Cobb County into Gwinnett County today. After years of growth and development within Georgian Bayou (now known as Chattahoochee River), control passed from Hereford to his son Prentiss Hereford in 1815 which left behind a farming community with some taverns, shops, churches and schools dotting rural acres across three counties; herefordia survived until after World War II when most villages along those waterways ceased operations due to government mandates for more efficient transportation systems through suburban areas such as Atlanta In 1881, following annexation by Fulton County from Georgia state, Gainesville became an incorporated town under the name "Gainesville".
