Fairburn, Georgia was a town in Fulton County, Georgia. It was founded in 1814 by James Fairburn and named for him. The first store in Fairburn opened in 1827. In 1830, the local mill became one of the first mills in the state of Georgia. The town continued to grow until it had over 100 residents by 1860. By 1870, Fairburn had become an important transportation stop on the Atlanta-Fulton Railway. The cotton industry declined after World War I, but Fairburn continued to grow through manufacturing and development until it lost its status as a major city in the late twentieth century.
Fairburn is a small town in the metro Atlanta area of Georgia. The population was 8,592 at the 2010 census and it is the county seat of Fulton County. The first inhabitants in Fairburn were Cherokee. In 1802, General Andrew Jackson set up a military post here as part of his campaign against Native American chief Osage Trail. In 1819, General James Kenedy established a trading post here with traders from England and France. A store and school were built in 1825, along with a sawmill and grist mill. A courthouse was built here in 1853, when Fulton County was organized into counties. In 1888, Fairburn became an incorporated village under the name of Newnan but it reverted to its original name after Newnan merged into Fulton County. In 1901, Interstate 95 was routed through this town; as a result, many businesses closed down and most residents left for better opportunities elsewhere. However, some people kept their homes until 1985 or later when they sold them off to developers or moved away completely. The last resident to live in Fairburn was Mr./Mrs./Dr.(last name unknown) who retired from her home in 2006 according to local reports

Fairburn is an incorporated town inCarter County, Georgia, United States. The population was 1,819 at the 2000 census. Fairburn is part of the Chattanooga metropolitan area. It lies on the banks of the Chattahoochee River. The first people to live in present-day Fairburn were traders and Choctaw Indians who hunted and fished on the river. A fort was built by General James Wilkinson in 1802 as part of a border treaty with Mexico. In 1814, Cherokee Indian Chief Muscogee Adair made his home there after fleeing from slavery in Alabama. He founded what became known as "Muscogee City" on land he had bought from the Creek Nation east of Lookout Mountain near what is now Fairburn Cemetery. In 1796, a group of Methodist missionaries visited Macon County and found it fertile ground for missionary work among the Cherokees and Chickasaws living east of Atlanta. They began construction of their first church in 1799 at present day White Settlement (now Paulding). In 1800–1801, Reverend John Wesley traveled through this region surveying Indian lands for a new mission station called Fort Hill which would be located between Macon County to the north and Cumberland County to the south; however, because no white person wanted any part of this project, nothing ever happened with it. In 1801–1802, Colonel Nathan Bedford Forrest led a punitive expedition against Muscogee Indians near Fort Gibson where 437 men and boys were killed or captured including threeaged Asahel Payne who had been selected by Forrest as his personal slave Painter Payne died during captivity In 1807–1808 Governor Andrew Johnson ordered General Robert E Lee to march downriver from Chattanooga towards Mobile Bay to capture 21 Cherokees living west bank along Mobile Creek known as "Tuskegee". After resting at Camp Perry upstream from Tuskegee before continued march that night some 50 miles they reached within sight but could not operate their cannons because they did not have powder enough so next morning decided to turn back due lack availability plus high water levels that prevented marching any further that day so camped again about 14 miles below present day town site just above creek bed today . Shorey hearings revealed widespread discrimination across all levels statewide against African Americans especially educationally qualified blacks such as doctors, lawyers etc.—and recommend solutions including desegregation bus systems throughout state..
