The Fairburn Air Force Base, located in central Georgia, has been a major air forcebase for more than fifty years. In that time, the base has served as home to several different types of aircraft and crews. Today, the Fairburn AFB hosts the American 3rd Infantry Division's 26th Airlift Wing and portions of the 435th Aerospace Defense Command. The wing is responsible for providing aerial refueling and fly-by-wire support for all elements of Operation Enduring Freedom and Operation Iraqi Freedom. Additionally, the wing provides airlift services to various coalition forces in Afghanistan and Iraq.
The history of gift giving at Fairburn AFB goes back to World War II when it was first established as an air depot. From then until the present day, gifts have been a common occurrence at this military installation. One of the earliest USAF gift recipients was General Spaatz who presented a plaque in 1946 commemorating his promotion to Commander in Chief United States Air Forces Europe (USAAF Eu). That same year also saw the opening of Headquarters Fighter Command's new building onsite which housed two squadrons of Lockheed P-38 Lightning fighters each equipped with six machine guns.
In 1957, Fairburn AFB became home to Tactical Air Command's ("TAC") 9th Bombardment Wing which flew nuclear weapons from there duringOperation Little Boy. In 1966, Tactical Air Command relocated its headquarters from Wright Field, Ohio to Fairburn AFB after being moved from Langley AFB Virginia due to budget cuts within TACs organization during that era known as "the walk-out". The 9 BW operated out of three separate hangars on site until 1972 when they consolidated under one roof atFairburn AFB becoming Headquarters Bomber Wing/Tactical Air Command (HW/TC) 514th Bombardment Group/19th Tactical Airlift Wing (TAW) upon activation from Triple Canopy Army National Guard Base Near Memphis Tennessee upon mobilization into Continental USAF following Vietnam War hostilities ended on April 30,. 1969 - overall command authority vested with Headquarters Bomber Wing/TC 509th Bombardment Squadron activated atFairburn AFB effective May 1st,. 1969; however unit remained attached concurrently with AAF Regional Operations Commands multirole squadron assigned thereto concurrent withactivation.[Pamphlet No 514] Unit participated fully in CONFIDENTIALULAR AIRCRAFT SALE held at Laughlin AAF Texas Nov 6-8 1975 conducted by Colonel Vernon C.-Davenport USAF officer commanding HBU 514 BG auctioned off items including two Beechcraft Baronadas donated by Mrs John W.[2]
On October 20 th 1970 Secretary Nixon signed Executive Order 13224 creating Blue Angels Squadron At Fairbury AF . This order followed months long planning by Director Of Naval Warfare Admiral Elmo Ziegler who had been working closely with Navy Deputy Chiefs Admiral Stansfield Turner and Rear Admiral David Greene

Fairburn, Georgia is one of the most populous cities in the United States and home to the Air Force Academy. The city was founded by General William J. Hardee in 1887, and quickly became a center of aviation. The Academy began instruction in 1911 and graduated its first class of cadets in 1915. In 1933, the Air Force moved its headquarters from Dayton to Fairburn, making it one of the few military installations outside of Washington D.C. to have its own permanent campus. With world-renowned facilities like Hartsfield-Jackson Airport within easy commuting distance, Fairburn has become an important industrial and commercial center for southeastern Georgia.
Fairburn is a city in Douglas County, Georgia, United States. The population was 3,651 at the 2010 census. Fairburn is part of the Atlanta metropolitan area. It lies on the east side of Douglas County and is bordered by Catoosa County to the north and west, Stone Mountain Park to the south, and Roswell to the east.
The first white person in what would become Fairburn was John Whitehead who settled in 1798. The townspeople were organized into a Methodist church in 1810. In 1819, Judge James Buchanan Post ordered all white people out of town because he believed they were creating a "Negro colony". A group of black men from nearby Mableton decided to stay and started trading goods with the whites. They also built homes and a school which still stands today. By 1870, there were over 100 residents living in Fairburn. In 1886, Fairburn became a municipality when it combined with neighboring Catoosa County to form Douglas County .
In 1906, construction began on what would become central downtown Fairburn which was completed in 1912 as one of America's first planned cities . The city grew rapidly during World War II due to its strategic location for bombing raids against Japan . After the war ended, large numbers of African American soldiers arrived here from states such as Alabama and Mississippi (known as " Gullah Islanders" ) seeking work opportunities . Many African Americans found their way into business or professional roles throughOperation VE Day-the celebration marking United States victory over Nazi Germany-and other social changes that followed throughout the 1960s

Fairburn was born on October 25, 1868, in Anson County, Georgia. The town was named for Captain John Fairburn who fought in the American Revolution. After the war, he became a judge and taught school in Fairburn until his death in 1951. In 1958, Fairburn became the capital of Jackson County after it was made a county seat by an act of the Georgia General Assembly. The population grew rapidly during the 1960s and 1970s due to cotton farming and other agricultural activities; however, growth slowed during the 1990s as reasons for new development increased. The population increased again from 2000 to 2010 but has yet to reach its pre-2000 levels.
The early history of Fairburn is filled with stories of pioneers who journeyed there from all over Georgia looking for land that would offer them a better life. One such pioneer was Isaac Smith who arrived in 1814 and quickly found success growing cotton on his plantation near present day Fairburn. Other early settlers were men such as James Witherspoon and William Hogg who came to explore what would become Jackson County in the 1830s. By 1840, most of what is now eastern Jackson County had been explored and established as settlements including present dayFairburn except for a small section east of Pultneyville which remained unclaimed by anyone until 1849 when Major John Fenton claimed it under contract with Cherokee Nation traders.
The first store opened up in what is now downtown Fairburn around 1800; this store was located at what is now Old Courthouse Square which served as a meeting place for township board meetings throughout much of Georgian years beginning with Township No 1 organized on April 15th 1784 by Order or Resolution Of His Honor George Washington Bartlett Esq., Justice Of Peace For Our Province And State Of Georgia &cetera etcetera etcetera etcetera etcetera etceteraetc). A second store opened up about two years later on December 12th 1802 within sight of where the current courthouse stands today (Old Courthouse Square). At this time, most business activity took place between home base(the old home), nearby plantations or local mercantile businesses called “stores†which functioned much like current day gas stations with customers coming into one location to buy food items such as flour, sugar cane molasses or tea while also buying/selling goods generally related to agriculture or manufactured products not specifically targeted at Georgians but sold through area merchants more often than not because transportation then consisted primarily of foot traffic rather than carsriages or other modes of transportation even though roads were built at various points starting circa1800.) It should be noted that although some stores did open closer to downtown Fairburn (eastern edge), they generally operated out their own doors because there wasn’t really enough space inside buildings OR because expensive real estate constraints prohibited larger stores from opening near residential areas amygdalaptically.).

In 1821, the area around Fairburn was included in a census of Georgia. The population at that time was only 1,569. In 1829, the town of Fairburn was platted and named in honor of General James Fairburn. The first store in Fairburn opened its doors on December 12, 1830. The town grew rapidly due to the influx of settlers and businesses soon followed. By 1836,Fairburn had an estimated population of 5,000 people. In 1838-9, the town experienced a large outbreak of cholera which caused significant death and suffering among the populace.
The town continued to grow until it reached its peak in 1861 when it had an estimated population of 10,000 people living in 9 square miles. However, by 1865-6 the growth stopped as cotton prices plummeted and Fairburn slowly lost its importance as a commercial center due to limited resources and competition from larger towns nearby. After 1850s many African Americans were brought into Georgia through slave trade for manual labor or agricultural work; this increased competition for jobs within the city limits which led to increasing social tensions between black residents and white ones over control of local businesses and services
