The coffee was then transported to Athens, Georgia and sold to European buyers. There was also a time when the beans were being grown in plantations near Atlanta, but these days most of the beans are grown in South Carolina and Louisiana. The first coffeehouses in Athens were established around 1790 and they served both local residents and visitors. In 1824, a group of investors founded the Coffee House Club which met at the home of Reverend James Henson. The club supported various causes such as education and abolitionism. It is said that one of their goals was to promote trade between different parts of America. In 1828, Reverend Henson built his own house on State Street near Third Avenue for use as the Coffee House Club’s headquarters. From here, he could see all aspects of coffee industry from market research to marketing strategy. He also became very influential within the coffee community and helped develop new methods for roasting and brewing coffee. Today, you can still find remnants of this early history in many places throughout Athens including State Street Park where you can enjoy a cup of maga coffee while overlooking downtown Athens!

East Point is a town in Fulton County, Georgia, United States. The population was 2,856 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Atlanta metropolitan area. The first permanent settler in what is now East Point was John Whitehead, who arrived with his family from England in 1788. He built a cabin on the neck of land that he and his wife named "Macon". In 1802, Whitehead and his son James bought 1/2 mile (1 km) of swampy land east of present-day East Point from Theodore Payne to create an artificial island which they called "Island Road" or simply "Island". In 1803, James Whitehead married Miss Rachelle Alexander. They had two children: John (1804-1892), who became known as Captain James W. Eastpoint; and Rachelle (1806-1893). Captain James W. Eastpoint served in the U.S. Army during the American Civil War and died at Gettysburg on July 4th 1865 after leading a charge into Cemetery Hill to secure Cemetery Ridge for General Robert E Lee's army against Confederate forces under General Nathan Bedford Forrest

East Point is a small town in Fulton County, Georgia, United States. The population was 927 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Athens-Clarke metropolitan area. East Point is bordered by Athens to the north and west, Carrollton to the south, and Marietta to the east. The town was founded in 1824 as a trading post on an old route between southwestern Georgia and Alabama. In 1835 it became a county seat; in 1851 it reverted to its original name. In 1865 it was ceded by Georgia to Unionist forces during the American Civil War; after Confederate forces had surrendered, East Point reverted back to Confederate control. In 1907–1908, East Point hosted the first international exposition of botany and flowers in that country. In 1945, when nearby Milledgeville became an all-black city following World War II CODE ( Negroes in Education), Eastpoint's white residents formed an anti-lynching group called "Citizens for Racial Equality." They unsuccessfully sought annexation into Milledgeville until 1948 when they were successful when their request was granted without referendum due to changes made in local law that year limiting annexations from towns with over 500 residents only if they voted against it (the current zoning code does not allow annexations except through vote).
