In 1983, The Coca-Cola Company purchased a controlling interest in Glenn Coffee and continues to operate it as their primary source for fresh roasted coffee.
East Point is a small town located in Cobb County, Georgia. The population was 1,885 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Atlanta metropolitan area. East Point is known for its historic buildings, such as the Cobb County Courthouse and Park Hall. The first settlers in East Point were African Americans who moved from Savannah, Georgia to what is now Cobb County in 1814. They named their community "East Point" after an old Creek Indian trading post on the Chattahoochee River. During World War II, many GIs from East Point served in the United States Army or Navy. One of these veterans was Admiral Chester Nimitz Jr., who later became U.S. Naval Chief Admiral during World War III and Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff until his death in 2018. In 1951, Mayor Hugh Cagle created a Parks and Recreation Department which still operates today under his leadership as Mayor Pro Tem with responsibility for all City Government functions including Parks and Recreation; Streets and Sidewalks; Housing; Community Development Services; Library District Services; Planning & Zoning Commission services; Public Works Administration services (maintenance work); Education Facilities Management Corporation services (construction management). In 1971, Starbucks began using more automated equipment to roast their beans which made it easier for customers to purchase fresh coffee from the store.
