The second coffee shop to open in East Point, Georgia was the Empire Coffee House, which opened in 1984. It served espresso and iced tea until it closed in 2001. In 2008, the firstizza Coffee Shop opened up in East Point and it is still serving coffee today.
East Point is an unincorporated community in DeKalb County, Georgia, United States. It is located on the north side of the Chattahoochee River, east of downtown Atlanta. The population was 554 at the 2000 census. The community was founded by planters who arrived in 1820 from East Tennessee. They named their community after East Point, a point on the south bank of the Chattahoochee River where they built their first home. After years of growth and development, East Point changed its name to Eastpointe in 1937 to avoid confusion with nearby Atlantica Beach. In 1996, EastPointe voters passed a resolution calling for the town to be renamed after Confederate general Pee Wee Harrison because he had helped fight for the Confederacy during the American Civil War. Today, East Pointe has a small shopping center and several churches including First Baptist Church which was built in 1907 and is one of Atlanta's oldest African-American congregations.

East Point is a small city located in Cobb County, Georgia. The population was 3,768 at the 2000 census. East Point is part of the Atlanta metropolitan area. The city was founded in 1802 by James East and his brother John East as a log settlement on the east side of what is now known as Peachtree Street. In 1805, East Point became a town and in 1827 it was incorporated as a village. On December 5, 1886, East Point became an incorporated City and on July 1, 1895 it attained its presentcity status. The first post office at East Point was established on January 6, 1802 by JamesEast and JohnEast. It operated for six months before being discontinued because of low sales volume. The second post office opened at Westpoint on February 2, 1903 by Hosea Atkinson with Latham Postmaster also serving as agent until 1905 when Wm Sprague took over that function. In 1885-1886 the then Minister to Russia William Sprague established an agricultural school at East Point which taughtISAAC Swayne's experimental " sprouting" system for raising cottonseedlings from seed directly into finished crops - something which had been tried unsuccessfully in other cities but had great future potential in Atlanta due to its humidity and rich soil resources. After Sprague's successful school operation he donated land near the current site of Eastern Market for development into an agricultural college campus called Southeast Agricultural College (now Emory University). After World War II many residents left or were forced out of their homes due to racial discrimination policies of American apartheid South Africa which forbade all white people from living within black limits without special permission from local white leaders who controlled all major aspects of life in South Africa including education and business affairs
