Airforce Gift History in East Point, Georgia began with the founding of the United States Air Force on September 18, 1947. The Air Force was formed as a merger of the Army and Navy air forces. The first assignment for USAF officers was to provide security for President Truman when he made his first public address from Yuma Proving Grounds, Arizona. Inactivated on December 1, 1949, the USAF re-established itself as an operational arm of the military on January 8, 1950. On July 25th, 1951 Headquarters USAF activated at Wright-Patterson AFB in Dayton Ohio as a command headquarters for all USAF commands and subordinate units worldwide. This organization would later be renamed CENTCOM which became operational on October 17th 1955 with Headquarters USAF stationed at MacDill AFB Florida. In 1961 Headquarters USAF relocated to Fort Worth Texas after being moved from Hill Air Force Base in California due to budget cuts. From then until its closure in 2011 ADC (The American Defense Agency) controlled all USAAF assets overseas including AFES (Aircraft Fires Support). Withdrawal of AFES also resulted in loss of many years’ worth of aircrew logbook evidence that is now lost forever. The last major change during this time came about when ADC merged with DOD (Department Of Defense) making it easier for commanders to share information more effectively between their agencies without having to move their HQs around every time there was a new decision or directive needing review and implementation within those agencies! East Point is a small town located in Fulton County, Georgia. The population was 1,723 at the 2010 census. It is part of the metro Atlanta area. The community began as an agricultural parish in 1820 and was named for then-Governor John Easton. In 1846, it became a city and was renamed East Point after Major General James Ewing who had been killed in action during the Mexican-American War. In 1907, the city annexed part of nearby Marietta to form a unified municipality. In 1960, East Point became an incorporated city and has since grown rapidly with many new businesses opening up around the town square which still remains one of its most popular areas for shopping and dining. The USAF also gifted firearms to its allies during this time period including Australia who received Type 38 rifles from the US after they helped fight against Japan in World War II; Canada received M1 Garand rifles; Mexico received Browning Automatic Rifle pistols; Peru received Service de Guerra Modelo P-539 radios; Greece received Hellenic Type 329 antiaircraft guns; Yugoslaviareceived Type 209 cannons; and France received French Mistral fighter jets! Throughout its history,the USAF has given significant amounts of equipment and supplies to some of its partners including: India who Received 5 Light Helicopters from USA after supporting Operation Everest during 1971 Indian-Pakistani War; Egypt who Received 3 MiG-21s from USA following Operation North Africa 1968 Egyptian-Israeli War ; Jordan who Recieved 50 MLRS launchers from USA along with 100 trucksloads of ammunition following their liberation from Syria in 1967 Jordanian-Syrian War ; Netherlands who Gave 2 Dutch L2Z9 trainers to Malaysian Royal Malaysian Air Force after helping them During 1962 Dutch East Indies Crisis

East Point was founded by white settlers in 1802. It became a slave-holding outpost in the early 1800s. The area was first settled by Savannah traders and planters, who named it after East India Company captain James Easton. By 1830, the plantation system had arisen around the community, and African Americans were used as slaves to work the land. In 1835, a group of black Methodists seeking religious freedom from slavery founded a church on East Point Peninsula. After several years of struggles, they succeeded in achieving their goals and set up their church among other freed blacks in 1840. In 1865, Confederate General Robert Ewell decided to retreat from Atlanta after losing the Battle of Bull Run. He retreated through Georgia's Cherokee Nation, taking his troopers with him. Many of these troops were eventually absorbed into Union forces during the Civil War; East Point remained under Confederate control until 1850 when it came under Union rule.
