It is named after Dublin, Ireland. The community was founded in 1881 as a farming community on the Chattahoochee River by Scots-Irish farmers who had emigrated to America from Scotland. Irish immigrants also settled there during the late 19th century; some became successful businessmen and politicians. In 1922, the town of Dublin merged with neighboring Decatur to form one large city; however, that merger never happened because of local opposition from residents of Decatur who felt they were being left out of the new city's growth.
