Douglasville is a small town in Cherokee County, Georgia and has been coffee growing since the early 1800s. The first coffee beans were ground up and roasted by local farmers to sell to their neighbors. Coffee was originally brewed for sale at local stores as a morning comfort drink. Today, Douglasville's coffee industry is still strong with many small-batch roasters operating in the area. The town of Douglasville was founded in 1837 by trustees of the Baptist church who purchased land east of Atlanta for $2,000. The first store opened in 1839 and soon became known as the "Coffee Capital of Georgia." By 1860, there were six stores in Douglasville selling coffee. In 1898, Reverend J.Humphrey organized an association which marketed and Roasted Coffee from its farmhouse on Union Street until 1912 when it moved to its current location on Chestnut Hill Road. Today, there are over 50 small-batch roasters located throughout Cherokee County including five from Douglasville itself! Many of these businesses began as hobbyists or family businesses but have grown into successful operations over time. Some notable small batch cafes include: Doug's Coffee (since 1978), One Hundred Years Old Cafe (1997), Grog Shop (2002), The Old Mill Brewery (2006), Park Place Café & Bakery (2008) and McCabe's Pizza & Pasta (2012).

Douglasville was founded in 1868 as a small farming community named after General James H. Douglas, who served as commander of Confederate forces in the Atlanta Campaign of 1864 and 1865. The city became an important center for cotton textile production during the 19th century and early 20th century. In the 1940s and 50s, Douglasville became known for its manufacturing industries such as radios, refrigerators, and airplane parts. After years of decline in these activities, Douglasville has regained some prominence in recent decades as a bedroom community for Atlanta. The history of Douglasville begins with General James H. Douglas who fought under General Robert E. Lee during the American Civil War (1865-1868). He left his home town of Chattanooga to serve in the Union army and eventually become Commanding Officer of Confederate forces at Fort McAllister on the Chattahoochee River in southeast Alabama before moving to Georgia to lead a military campaign against Ulysses S Grant’s Army of Northern Virginia during the Atlanta Campaign (1863-1865). When Governor Nathan Bedford Forrest arrived at Fort McAllister on September 2nd from Richmond seeking refuge from Grant’s forces following their victory at Pea Ridge Creek two days earlier, he found that Douglasville had been abandoned by its residents due to fear of Forrest’s possible attack upon the town if it remained loyal to Grant. In response to this situation, Forrest ordered local leader James Auld to begin construction on what would become known as “General James H.,” or Main Street in today’s downtown area – marking one of the first instances where an urban center outside of Mobile was designated by name rather than simply “Atlanta” or “the south side [of] Montgomery Street [in downtown].” By 1867, business owners within areas surrounding Atlanta were becoming restless with not being able to sell their products near where they lived– something which had been happening since prior to Reconstruction era when states were created following civil war; most notably Kentucky which saw same level economic prosperity following reconstruction period despite having large slave population With this new development came increased competition for jobs within state borders due largelyto newly freed black Americans coming into cities looking for opportunity and stability post-Reconstruction era This lack thereof resulted primarily from political instability caused by abolitionist policies pursued by various federal governments including Ulysses S Grant himself As result many businesses relocated out westward into counties such as Gwinnett County or even into Spanish Harlem in New York City while others closed down completely due à lack support from government officials either through taxation or regulations By 1870 there were only 6 businesses remaining within Douglasville limits while numerous other towns throughout Fulton County were experiencing similar levels unemployment It wasn't until 1875 when local miller John Pritchard started investing money into developing what would become known today as "Pritchard's Mills" – which at that time produced both cotton yarn and flour – that things began turning around for locals withinDouglasvillenowiceestablishingainfluentialmanufacturing industryoutsideofthedowntownareaduring20thcentury . At present day Pritchard's Mills still produces both fabrics andflour utilizingold machinery dating back To 1840 . However recent attempts have been made by developers over time to revive old mills however limited success has thus far been experienced
Douglasville is a city in metro Atlanta, located on the eastern side of Douglas County. The population was 24,912 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Fulton County metropolitan area. The city was platted in 1871 by John Douglas, who had come from a family of farmers in Scotland. The first building in Douglasville was a farmhouse, which burned down in 1872. In 1875, A.P. Hill built the first store and post office in what is now Douglasville. In 1886, Jno Hines bought land and founded the First National Bank here. In 1893–1894, General William Troup served as Mayor of Douglasville and donated land to build his eponymous military prison here that became known as "Troup Park". In 1907, Lillie Mae Johnson founded Georgia's first womens' college (later renamed Tuskegee University). In 1911, Aida Wright founded her own sewing company here and began making clothing for local stores and schools. In 1923–1924 Vinton Cagle ran for mayor three times but no one voted him into office because he could not get property tax endorsements from within the city limits- this is still an issue with some residents today! Douglasville saw its biggest growth period during World War II when many businesses came online to support the war effort including Phillips Air Force Base (now known as Fairchild Air Force Base) and other nearby military installations; although most factories closed after 1945 due to economic sanctions against Russia following World War II. Since then it has slowly regained much of its lost ground with more recent development such as new housing developments such as Riverpark Place and Rivergate Village which have replaced older industrial buildings around town center while also renovating older homes dating back to the early 1800s called "Old Town" which remains an interesting old district unto itself!
