Douglasville is a city in Bibb County, Georgia, United States. The population was 21,539 at the 2010 census. It is the county seat of Bibb County. Douglasville was founded by farmers in 1835 and became a town in 1853. In 1888, it became the city of Douglasville after its incorporation as a municipality. The current name for Douglasville was selected when the city annexed part of neighboring Decatur Township in 1961. In 1835, some farmers from adjacent counties decided to establish a new community called "Douglasville" on what is now Old Decatur Road near present-day Grissom Lake. After spending time visiting friends and family in nearby Decatur and Marietta before finally setting down roots here permanently on July 4th of that year, they were met by local citizens who had gathered to celebrate their incorporation into the newly formed state of Georgia under the Constitution of 1785 (the first such attempt). As one may expect given this nascent community’s limited resources at that time ( scarcely any land or water), early civic leaders decided upon many important measures including election night celebrations which took place inside the old courthouse on Commerce Street – now home to our downtown core! As we know today thanks to still vivid photos taken during that period depicting vibrant street scenes filled with revelers & vendors alike - general public meetings were also held sporadically throughout the day via correspondence sent out via runner from various locations across town; all discussing things like weights & measures etc., important business proceedings being conducted as required by law at that point… affairs such as these effectively serving as model for future municipal government within fledgling Georgia! This level of activity didn't stop there however; early days saw hard work put into erecting essential infrastructure including roads (mostly dirt) leading into town proper – much later becoming known collectively as “Old Town streets†due to their vibrancy throughout the years! Just some examples include: Park Avenue NE now home to magnificent Phillips Park/Douglasesville Marketplace featuring several dozen small businesses/cafes/television studios etc.; Monroe Road NW becoming home to respected private schools until recent times; Druid Hills Rd SW finally becoming accessible following years worth effort culminating in its designation as Historic Route 66 just east of downtown; aforementioned Old Town Streets eventually providing vital transportation links within our growing community well beyond those living directly near them……….So long ago then but so very real today when you walk outside your door & take a step back towards Old Town streets memories flood back like never before!
