The Coast Guard of Douglasville, Georgia has been providing service to the community since 1922. The Coast Guard Station in Douglasville is one of the oldest continuously staffed Coast Guard stations in the Southeast. The Station was first established as a Volunteer Fire Department station in 1922 and was then renamed the Coast Guard Station in 1924. In 1952, the station became an operational Naval Air Station and was redesignated as the Coast Guard Station Douglasville in 1966.Today, the Delta County Sheriff's Office provides law enforcement services to residents along with providing emergency response for local events such as tornadoes, hurricanes and earthquakes. The Douglasville Coast Guard Station plays a critical role in keeping our region safe by providing maritime security, rescue operations, and other essential services during times of emergency. TheStation is home to a variety of National Security Fleet assets including two MH-60S Seahawk helicopters, three HC-130H Hercules transports/logistics vehicles, four P-3C AquaticAir patrol planes and six UH-1 Huey helicopters. Additionally,the Delta County Sheriff’s Office operates an abandoned mine control center that offers access to more than 2 acres of beachfront property for Search and Rescue operations when necessary. In addition to its core missions of maritime security and search & rescue assistance,the Coast Guard also provides support for localfire department needs through its affiliation with both Cherokee County Fire Authority (CCFA)and Fulton County Fire Authority (FCFA). CCFA provide firefighting resources while FCFA provide Services such as Life Saving Operations Support (LOSS), Helicopter Airdropping Assistance (HAAS), Hazardous Material Response Team (HMRT), Traffic Control Unit(TCU)and Public Information Officer(PIO). I cannot express enough how grateful I am that we have our own Coastal Guardsmen here atDouglasville! They make sure that we are always prepared should something happen on our shoreline!

At that time, it was only a volunteers 11-man force that patrolled the coastlines of America's Northeast and Midwestern regions. In 1851, Congress created the Department of Commerce and Navigation which merged with the United States Customs Service in 1861 to form the present day Coast Guard. The first Coast Guard cutter was built in 1878 and became operational that year. Over time, additional units were added to provide more protection along our coastline including a destroyer in 1915, an amphibious assault ship in 1942, and finally a fast patrol vessel in 1978. Today, the Coast Guard provides essential coastal security for America's citizens and assets through its many missions such as search and rescue; law enforcement; maritime interdiction; disaster relief; environmental protection; public health promotion; counterdrug operations; human smuggling investigations; anti-terrorism programs; CODE-6 readiness inspections. In addition to these core duties, they also offer resources such as helicopters or boats for special events or deployment to support other federal agencies or state governments on their behalf. Douglasville is a small town in Fulton County, Georgia, United States. The population was 1,521 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Atlanta metropolitan area. Douglasville's history dates back to 1887 when it was founded as a post office by General Nathan Bedford Forrest and his wife Anna Maria Livingston Forrest. The community took its name from John Douglas, an early settler and a member of the Georgia House of Representatives. The first school in Douglesville was opened in November 1887 by Mrs. Anna Maria Forrest and her four children. There were only six students in grades one through five when the school opened. By 1893, there were fifteen students in grades one through ten and twelve students in grade eleven; however, due to budget cuts, the school closed on October 15th that year with all but two students present. In 1897-98 local farmer JW McClendon donated land for a public high school which would become Douglasville High School; ground was broken on October 12th 1898 and classes began on January 6th 1899 under Principal W H Alexander with sixteen seniors from rural areas who had come to attend because they knew their opportunities would improve if they lived near Atlanta proper rather than traveling long distances each day to get to their schools. In 1902-03 Superintendent John Pemberton increased enrollments atDouglasville High School by adding junior high (grades 10-12) girls although boys still attended until 1955 when girls became eligible for graduation from high school at age eighteen (the same age as male college graduates). The first matriculation for Douglasville High School Class of 1903 occurred on September 3rd 1903 with seventy-two young men and women attending from all over Fulton County including some who had driven hundreds of miles just to be among those who could finally attend college! Classes graduated three hundred ninetyeight people during that inaugural term! For many years after World War II ended (1945-1949), Douglasville continued as an active community despite struggling economically during times of tough competition from other small towns within commuting distance of Atlanta such as Decatur and Cobb county respectively which saw dramatic increases in population growth during this time period whileDouglasville slowly lost its stature as an agricultural community dependent upon cotton production (although cotton production remains significant today). Many residents left Douglasville during this time frame due to changes taking place throughout Atlantica including mass migration into larger cities such as Atlanta which led to decreasing access to farmland around here while also cutting down on available jobs outside the city limits making life difficult for everyone involved especially those who depended upon agriculture for their livelihoods……….As more people moved into cities during this period these days fewer people live close enoughto farm anymore so Historic Farmstead has been renovated into apartments
