The Doraville Air Force Base gave back with a gift in 1978. It was the United States Air Force's first airbase to be dedicated in Georgia. The base had been operating out of an existing airport in Decatur, Alabama since 1923. In 1978, the United States Air Force donated land at Doraville Airport for the construction of an airbase. The new airbase would serve as home to both the 9th and 10th Mountain Division flying units stationed at Doraville AFB. The 8th Tactical Fighter Wing also moved from its previous location at Whiteman AFB in Missouri to Doraville AFB during this time frame. The arrival of these new units created a need for more housing and support facilities on-base. In 1984, the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers began construction on what is now known as "the Gator House". This $13 million project was funded by Congress and completed in 1987%.
Doraville, Georgia is a small town in the U.S. state of Georgia located on the Chattahoochee River. The population was 1,521 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Atlanta metropolitan area and is mostly rural with a few small businesses and residences scattered throughout its streets and hillsides. The name "Doraville" comes from "Drumnaconee", which means "place where people come to rest." The first settlers were farmers who arrived around 1820, after traveling through what is now Alabama and Tennessee looking for land to purchase or sell. They named their new home Drumnaconee after one of their founders, Doctor David Doraville. In 1834, General John Pope moved his headquarters from Savannah to Fort Pulaski in Doraville after success in crushing a slave uprising there that year. In 1850, General Nathan Bedford Forrest arrived in Doraville as military governor of Fulton County after successful campaigns against Native Americans in what is now Alabama and Georgia. He renamed the town Fort Pillow because he thought it would make for an easier target for artillery fire when attacking Cherokee settlements inland. The post-Civil War era saw a period of growth for Doraville as many young men started families here and began selling goods they produced back home on the family farm or in nearby villages such as Milledgeville (now Atlanta) and Decatur (now Smyrna). One big change during this time was that electric lights became available; these new arrivals helped transform downtown into one of southernGeorgia's most vibrant areas by 1910. In recent years, efforts have been made to revive downtown business activity by painting buildings bright colors and adding outdoor seating areas designed by award-winning architects like practice Skidmore Owings & Merrill LLP (www://www2 . skidmore . com/ ). One of the earliest examples of this was when, in 1923, General Billy Mitchell founded the Aero Club America. This group was designed to promote aviation by providing resources and support. Their first gift was a $5,000 check. Over time, Aero Club America became more active in promoting aviation both nationally and internationally. In 1944 they donated an airplane to Air Force Command as part of the donation program initiated by then-Chief Colonel James Halsey Jr.. This special aircraft would later be used in Operation Neptune’s Spear during World War II. In 1969 they donated an additional two airplanes to Air Force Command as part of the donation program initiated by then-Lieutenant General Curtis LeMay Sr.. These donations not only helped improve flying conditions within Air Force commands but also preserved these aircraft for future use. They continue this trend by donating an airplane every few years to help with Special Operations missions or training needs across all branches of our military! Today, we can see just how muchAir Force love Aviation through their donation programs and through their continued support for our branch! They have given so much back to our Military community over these years; it’s truly amazing!

Doraville is a small town in Fulton County, Georgia, United States. The population was 1,491 at the 2010 census. It had 2,136 at the 2000 census. Doraville is part of the Atlanta metropolitan area. The community began as a tiny hamlet on the edge of what is now Doraville Creek and was known for its produce and agricultural products. By 1851 it had 50 residents and by 1880 it had 100 residents. In 1911, after years of growth in agriculture due to railroad development in that area, the first post office was established in Doraville with a population of 10 citizens. In 1954, when Fulton County became full-time within Georgia's state government, Doraville became one of its five townships. As an incorporated town it has always been governed by a board of trustees which includes representatives from various sectors including business and education; however, since 2002 it has been governed by a mayor and council form of government with all citizens having direct input into their local affairs through elected officials (an important change given that most small towns have no police or fire department).
