The history of the Decatur Army is one that dates back to the early 1800s. The town of Decatur was founded in 1814 by Col. John Moultrie and became an important center for military activity in the region. In 1841, the United States Congress created a regiment called the Georgia Regiment, which was headquartered in Decatur. The regiment served in various engagements throughout central Georgia until it was disbanded in 1865. In 1898, the General Order No. 4 issued by President William McKinley declared all men must serve two years with no possibility of re-enlistment or discharge without honorable conduct. As a result, many soldiers fromDecatur enlisted in other armies and towns throughout Georgia. One such soldier was Sgt. First Class Alvin York who enlisting with Company A, 3rd Infantry Regiment from Decatur on December 6th, 1898 - he would later become known as America's first World War Veteran! After World War I, many servicemen returned toDecatur and began restoring old homes and businesses within the city limits as part of their efforts to rebuild post-war society. Businesses like Jethro Tull’s grocery store reopened after being closed during Prohibition; paper mills resumed production after being shut down during WWI; and even a small amusement park opened following prohibition Ends! This resurgence of community spirit helped spur development around downtown Decatur over the next several decades as more businesses moved into townspeople banded together to make their voice heard! Today, Decatur is home to many organizations dedicated to its military heritage including The Janesville Armory Museum which preserves artifacts related to US Military service from 1794-1964; The Fort Walton Beach Museum which features displays about local military history dating back to 1814; and most importantly -the Navy SEAL School located just north of downtown on Ft Walton Beach which offers instruction for aspiring Naval Officers!

Decatur is a city in Alabama, United States. The population was 24,711 at the 2010 census. It is the county seat of Decatur County. The city is located on the Decatur River and offers views of the Chattahoochee Mountains to the north and east. The first permanent settler in what is now Decatur County was James Covington, who arrived in 1785. In 1800, John White established a trading post on the Chattahoochee River opposite present-day Decatur City. After Indian Removal in 1807, most of eastern Alabama became part of Georgia; however, parts of Decatur County remained within Alabama until 1821 when they were placed under jurisdiction of Jacksonville Township. In 1827, Josephine McLane purchased land near present-day downtown Decatur from George Wirt Smith for $2,000 and began to build a brick town square known as “McLane Square” which still stands today. On December 6th 1830 – just one year after her purchase – McLane gave birth to her son John Browning in what is now McClane Square. By 1840, over 100 businesses had been erected around downtownDecatur including stores such as Gadsden Clothing Company (founded by Nathan Chapman), Dennison & Richardson Auctioneer Shop (established by David Dennison), Herndon Fairs & Recreation Grounds (established by Captain Elijah Herndon) and Jno Lumbermens Warehouse which still stands today! In 1861–1865 Confederate General Jubal Early fought his way through western Tennessee into northern Alabama before being driven back across the state line into Mississippi; during this time period large numbers of people crossed into Mobile Bayou along Mobile Street near where it forks into Upper Cumberland Road and East Fourth Street today called "General Early Boulevard". Many men who would becomeDecatur's biggest citizens during this time period made their homes here - among these men were Sam Houston and Andrew Johnson During Reconstruction following the war many African American men were brought here as indentured servants to work on plantations owned by white families; these men would eventually form their own gangs or associations known as "the coloreds" Many businesses that remain open today such as Jno Lumbermens Warehouse closed during prohibition but reopened again after repeal In 1924 local architect / builder Royal Arch Williams designed what would be known as America's Secondlargest shopping mall - King's Mall which opened on May 12th 1927 with an attendance of more than 150 million shoppers! Today it remains one of town’s main tourist attractions with over 350 shops and restaurants On January 1st 1960 – less than two years after its incorporation –Decatur voted to become an official municipal government with a Mayor/Council system instead of a mayor/council model used throughout most US cities including Atlanta etc.; this change represented a major turning point for decaturbans as it allowed for more governancelocal affairs rather then just reliance upon state government Today nearly every business within walking distance either has its own website or Facebook page or both!!

In 1822, Decatur became an independent town after its charter was amended to allow for such a decision by a vote of citizens rather than referendum. In 1825, Decatur became one of three towns in Georgia created from parts of Jefferson County following their annexation into Alabama (the other two being Marietta and Roswell). The first store in Decatur opened in 1826, and settlers began farming around what is now downtown in 1830. By 1840, there were over 100 residents living in Decatur proper and 50 miles (80 km) surrounding territory. A cotton gin was built in 1840 and soon produced more than 1 million pounds (450 metric tons) of cotton each year; this made Decatur one of America's leading cotton producing cities before World War II destroyed most production plants. During late 19th century American Reconstruction period, many African Americans migrated to what is now Dekalb County to work on plantations or join Confederate forces during the Civil War; however, these migrants had no impact on local demographics or economy until after Reconstruction ended with Lincoln's Emancipation Proclamation in 1865 which freed all slaves within states that had not ratified it Mistakenly believed that black people could only be apportioned land where they lived – primarily along racial lines – this led to widespread racist policies across much southern United States during Reconstruction period which continue up through present day
